How so? Neither Beezer, Weight or Amonte were part of the Stanley Cup team. The only major loss would have been Kovalev. However, youre replacing Kovalev with Lindros which I think is a level above.

Digging through the details...

Weight did become Tikkanen
Amonte became Matteau.

What would we be yelling if Matteau never happened because Amonte went to Quebec?

Exactly. It would have completely altered all the decision that we know happened that resulted in the cup winning team. There is no way to even tell if Lindros would have led the Rangers to the promise land at all comparatively to the pieces they acquired at the deadline.

It is still Lindros here, the guy was an unstoppable force.

How so? What do you mean? Lindros was a dominant force through many years before cheap shot Scott Stevens changed things.

Oh I agree. I was a big fan of his game when he was rolling. Sad it was on Philthasmephia.

yep, 7 major assets for Lindros
- jimbro83

That's crazy!
We got him at Puddin' Head stage of his career. Should have kept his head up.

this just was released in a book, the official trade agreement between Rangers and Quebec to get Lindros when they also traded him to Philly and we lost the arbitration case

Looking at our picks...... Sundstrom Cloutier and Dube. God we drafted like poop
- tbreinold

Sundstrom was a solid player for a bit, he was key component of the 97 run. Cloutier at least had a NHL career.

Flyers gave up Peter Forsberg, Mike Ricci, Ron Hextall, Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, future considerations —which eventually became Chris Simon — two first-round draft picks, and $15 million.

It prevents the Canadian Junior leagues (where >50% of players are still drafted from) from being plundered of all the top talent after 2 or 3 of their 5 years of eligibility. If that were to happen it would effect the development of every player across the entire CHL.

Edit:
more than half of draft picks were selected from the CHL "historically." I just took a quick look and found that other leagues (USADP, Europe, etc...) seem to be catching up. Recent draft have more like 40% coming out of Canadian Juniors.

- Tonybere

Ahh I guess that makes sense, thanks. Maybe make a rule change that would only make them eligible for AHL if they spend all of camp and a certain number of NHL games. Would weed out 90% of the risk I would think.

it's obvious Quebec preferred the Rangers deal to that one

because the whole reason that the arbitrator ruled in favor of Philly was because he determined that they made a nonbinding deal with Philly first they coudn't rescind

Would never have to be yelling "Matteau" because we would have rolled the Devils in 5!

one thing we had an edge on over Philly is that they traded their undisputed #1 goalie in Hextall to Quebec in the deal and then relied on a rookie in Tomas Soderstrom to be their number 1 goalie.

We had a great goalie in Mike Richter

the 1992-93 season was a miserable year for the Rangers and absolutely would have been better with Lindros

the question is would 1993-94 have been as good

I do think we would have been really good and likely Cup winners at some point in Lindros first 5 years

A few years back there was a bunch of "what if" articles posted and one was if lindros went to NY. A big thing that was mentioned was messier getting him to keep his head up and having a longer career
