Draft was in Chicago in 2017. I doubt if it will be back that soon.
Wiz, I'm looking way ahead. Let's say the Hawks get a top three pick in 2023 and ice an equally bad team for the 23-24 season. Any insights as to what the 2024 draft looks like talent wise? - boilermaker100 \
I do.
It is a pretty good class also think but one with one usa ahead of everyone, Macklin Celebrini.
I got a top 13 up, I don't think the Lines.com has it in a display mode. The other top gem is the Finnish offenseman, Aron Kiviharju, who isn't big just a better player than the two year old and men he has played against already. |

Weak defensively.
Del Mastro has worked his way to the second pairing. He’s played solidly, if unspectacularly this tournament. |

Bedard is up against the best he's seen in his career. Kid turned 17 in July and is going best on best vs kids 2-3 yrs older than him and for much of the tournament he's been the focal point of the opposition. By no means a poor tournament for him but he has not dominated...... Could be wrong but seems to have lost some mojo when he was moved to the bumper spot on the PP.
Kid has never really had to play much D. He is willing though and is not necessarily poor just not proficient when the other squad has the puck. Kid seems willing and I'm guessing his defense will improve.
Of all Hawk prospects Del Mastro has been my favorite. His size and balanced skating stand out but did not realize his smarts. Keeps it simple and lets the game come to him. Kid is showing a lot of poise.
Did not make the club, up cuz of an injury, plays in the 1st pairing with their best offensive Dman Zelwigger for a couple games, when Canada was short 5 on 3 he was the Dman out there, eventually settles in the 2nd pair. Very nice showing for Del Mastro.
Slaggart too has really showed well. Kid is looking more and more like he can play bottom 6 in the NHL.

Hawk fans if you don't wanna cough the dough to see the Hawk tank live get to a Steel game for 10 bucks a ticket and see Celebrini. Most sharpies see him as a top 5 NHL pick in 2024.

Wow, helluva drag and pull release by Dafour to make it 2-zip 1 minute into the 2nd. ......... The fine country of Canada plays a wonderful brand of hungry with their skill. Helluva forecheck, takes away time and space in all 3 zones and smartly plays the body..... Excellent roster construction. |

I wasn’t criticizing his lack of defense, I was just pointing out why he was on the third line. Although I agree he’s going to have add defense to his other talents. I’m impressed with his fearlessness and willingness to lay the body and mix it up.

Oh, I know. IMO you are right, they set the lines to be the most defensively responsible and it's working in spades. The Finns with a decent push the first 10:00ish of the 2nd but other than that not much at all.
And yea, Bedard is showing some push back but I wonder if that's just enough to get him off his game just a tad? Kid is learning and gaining experience but you gotta love the way he'll dig in. |

That has more to do with the injury to Ridley Greig who has been a pain in the back check and so much of a disruptor and now the role will have be handle by committee, than any slight on Beard. The Canada team has been very good at protecting Bedard from having to play in situation where he starts getting attacked, pushed after the whistles, and it won't affect how he plays, just not playing with the Duck's man mountain, Mason McTavish, whose probably made a strong argument ahead of training
And placed in the bumper position on the PP, so it keeps the Finn team in a tighter than usual pk box, making more space for the outside four power play attackers.

I missed that Bedard was at 3RW last game too. Yep, lines were shuffled once Grieg went out...... A far as Bedard at the bumper on the PP your thought makes sense. Gotta keep a tight box to take away space on such a deadly shooter. But that's kinda made him a decoy, no?.. CAN came into this tilt at 57% on the PP but are 0-6 tonight.
Well, we got an overtime Gold Medal Game!!

I also thought bit was a stupid tactic to use putting him in the bumper...guy with the best shock restricted in a s mall area with few touches that is what made it bad for his game...
The prospects still eligible in this U-20 will have another shot at Christmas to advance from their achievements in the oil 2022 U-18 and the early August 2022 U-17 to get called up for the 2022-23 U-20 on Boxing Day.
A lot of older prospects who played these last two weeks will have another chance to show a better pace and game at Christmas time, and the player's who see this just finished competition as their last, well, that means more call-ups from the other two tourneys and many of those players will be more exhibitions of 2023 Draft eligibles with older players and peers, so Chistmas will be more fun.

Tell you what I like so many of the Canadiens eligible - I upgraded my list and I always thought the Hawks would take Fantilli if they draft #2
There is simply too much to ignoprethat is already in the games of Brayden Yager , Zach Benson (I dunno how many NHL goals he scores, I just know he far so ahead of so many playing so hard to get and serve up pucks for teammates, and never quits...
but if I am looking for a gun, I am taking Eduard Sale no matter where he is being spotted by the rest of the league.
I knocked Dvorsky down to #11 and he may have a whole different pace and edge next Christmas.
Same with the big Finn that I knock down, not 'cause he doesn't knock down people, he just was not the big factor scoring threat I expected, but again jingles bells.
If any of you have the time find some tape on William Whitelaw.
I got spoiled already and want to pick more than once in the top of the first round.
I actually think there is plenty good reason for Blackhawks to stand pat, but I think if there was a draft to jump up in, it is this one.
I am convinced no team destined for the lotto is trading until they actually lose the lotto and assess their draft position and their draft list.
Then teams with picks that didn't win a jump will be more readily agreeable to trade a 6TH through 10th to get a late first and a 2nd or 3rd....there is simply so much talent to chose from, although you need a heartbroken GM who feels drafting after the "elite treats are gone" will cause their fans to end up comparing that early pick from 6 slot to from those top slots with the super stars...I dunno what I am talking about...hollywood jet lag. |

I like Colby Barlow SO MUCH I refuse to place him the ten spaces on my board where he truly belongs. I tried to leave him in the Tampa late first rounder spot the Hawks own, and started feeling dishonest, gosh, would I love him along with a lottery win.

I was actually thinking that when I’ve been watching him, water bug skater, great hands, not in Kane’s category but a very good stickhandler, outstanding vision and awareness but two advantages he has over Kane are his position (centerman) and his shot is off the charts good. The other thing is Bedard isn’t afraid to throw his weight around. - paulr
Not concerned if Bedard enters NHL as weak defensively. How much he cares to.ptove in that aspect of his game? Influence upon him from Kane and the head coach?
I would give up practicly anyone - some would like SeJones and pay half his salary or some financial.consideration. - if we are in a position to move up even one spot in the draft. When it comes to our future, the '23 draft is key since Bedard could be there for the taking of course we need lottery balls to be in our favor
Another team could say, but I see Bedard, A CENTER. as a key to our future. So you have to exchange a Mitchrll or Vlasic for our third pair slug, if you want to draft Bedard
I do it. Because when - what draft - can we reasonably expect to draft a center as good as Bedard might/should become.
I am quite interested to hear how you, Mr Richochet, LA Hawk and Rick appraise this line of thinking. I agree drafting best player available is rule of thumb. Unless there is a better CENTER, I want Bedard for our future
And I hope Reichel with the big size Teply develops as a strong second line. Slavin or Slaggert might be adding too much youth but initially I like to see if they could mesh as second unit.
NOTE: REJUVENATE KANE to end his career all.in Chicago with a top linematte. No reason Kane cannot be in top ten scoring again. Especially if several of our youngsters on defense work out. |

I’m not convinced that Bedard as the impact at the NHL level as we think. He’ll be very good, but will he be generational?
The 22 draft was very good for the Hawks, I’d consider their prospect pool to be “strong” not great or at the top of the league but strong. Which is a great improvement over last year when it was very weak. Obviously the Hawks need the #1 overall pick, but more importantly they need another strong draft where multiple picks have a legit show at becoming an NHL contributor. The have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds, lets hope KD can acquire a couple more.
I can see Kane being traded as rental at the TDL then re-signing with the Hawks for 23/24. This was he gets the best if both worlds, he gets a shot at another Cup but comes back to chase the various Blackhawks all-time records. The Hawks win but acquiring additional picks/prospects. I’d expect it wouldn’t be too much, maybe a 1st and b-level prospect, but it would be worth it.

I can understand folks who had read about Bedard and then watched him in this WJC come to this conclusion. ...... A couple things.
He is really young just turning 17 this July. He was going up against, for the most part, best on best U-20'a in the world many of whom are 2 or 3 yrs older than him marking the biggest jump in class he's seen. He is a natural centerman and was moved to wing. He started in L1 with McTavish and Roy, two really skilled players, showed great chemistry with McTavish and they put up points. Then Grieg went down, they shuffled lines and he went to L3 with less skilled mates. They also moved him to bumper on the PP whereas he's always had the PP run thru him along the 1/2 wall like Kane.
And for context sake, which is vital evaluating jrs, look at Mcdavid who's 6-7 months older his draft yr. In McD's 16 yr old in Major Junior he put up 28-71-99 in 56 OHL games. The younger Bédard put up 52-49-100 in 62 WHL games. In his -1 draft yr at the WJC U-20 McD had 4 pts in 7 games while Bedard just put up 8 pts in 7 games.
So he's been at least equal to McDavid, and at some spots better, than McD was.
Yes, I agree Bedard did not have a killer WJC but taken in context the kid is right there with a generational player in McD and had some circumstances go against him as noted, but IIRC McD was moved to wing his 17 yr old yr in the WJC too. ..... I think with what he learned this last week and the benefit of a good 1/2 WHL season before the next WJC in December we'll see a much more dominant Bedard.
