I have added the Michigan games to my to watch list.
I think that were will be a lot of focus and on what the college Fantaili looks like, and that will give us indicators if he can end up nose to nose at the finish line.
This last year draft saw the best Russian / arguable the 2nd /3rd best forward drop to slot #20.
Matvei Michkov is far different than Washington's Ivan Miroshnichenko but it seems the that the Vasily Podkolzin float into mid-first does exist, even if Michkov drops to the top dozen which like everything in the world is possible. - wiz1901
Posted awhile back that for me by far the most interesting thing about the 2023 draft is where does Miroshnichenko go. Depends on where he presents at the draft I guess. If he falls to say 5 does an LA, CAR, WSH, TB type squad, who can absorb that kinda risk to get a near generational talent, put together a package to move up? Or in other words if he does start to fall how far does he until teams start trying to move up for him?
These kinds of clubs can take a risk a CHL, AZ, SJ, PHI seemingly can't take.
But, as we agree how well Fantilli does at MI this yr vs players 2-3-4-5 yrs older, how he does at the WJC can make the decision easier. He does check the positional box in that he plays center and the Cossack is a wing.
I'll say this, if the Hawks draft Fantilli I doubt he comes out the next yr. That would mean they stink again the following yr with a chance to draft center Cole Eiserman in 2024. A dream scenario where you have two centers with size and crazy skill for 10-15 yrs, the next Toews and Kane..... Although even if they land Bedard and he plays NHL right away they'd still stink and still maybe able to draft Eiserman. |

Charlie has Allen at 5? I've read here that he sucks, so Charlie might be all wet..... |

Taking it further, Bedard can play on rw or centre and Fantilli is a big body who can play without being a centre.
In a move to wake up team Canada in the U-18s, They made fantilli the centre and the push the pace zone enter-er with Conor just waiting the get his touched=s for set ups and shots. I want them both!
And I will presume that the giant centre of the future sign went out at the draft when Dach went to develop elsewhere.
But there is one Bedard, and no matter what surprises we saw in the early 2022 choices in the top of that first, it would be a lot bigger walk way than Seattle get ng Shane wright later than first overall.
I'll say this, if the Hawks draft Fantilli

I agree that the 2023-2024 is not going to be much more successful that the this upcoming one. They have to add up front (but I have Aron Kiviharju LD Finland as the best player in the draft a Makar type.)
...but the early 2024 class (or a pick in 2023) HAS to bring in a big centre with big end upside.
You'd love to see the get the pick fro who drafts second in 2023....or one in that top dozen...

That is correct. Michkov will not be "eligible" to play in the NHL until he's 22. He has to play 3 yrs after being drafted in the KHL to honor his contract, his 19, 20 and 21 yr old yrs. Does he report to the NHL then? What is the political situation in Russia then?
Scary, man. Using a 2nd overall on what certainly has some uncertainty. - Mr Ricochet
BUT,.........coming over at an older ge also crimps Michkov future salary. He will reach UFA and even the bridge deal is later.
The kid will probably be at the Buffalo draft prospect camp, so you will know if he wants your team, when he WILL come and then the team decides...

I am a bit concerned for Theo. His departure seemed sudden. His announcement was at the end of a typical blog post, and it did mention health of Theo and/or his family. There was no smooth transition like there was when Ty left. He also did not appear (as far as I can remember) on the board after many posters left him well-deserved kudos; and this is not like him to do, imo, as I found him to be almost as polite as a Canadian.
So, Theo, if you are out there.....I hope you and your family are okay. |

Thank you all for the well wishes and concern. Much appreciated. I still keep up with the message boards.
My health is fine especially my back thanks to medicine and physical therapy. Without going into details, I'm actually taking time away from writing to take care of the health of someone else in the family and deal with some other family matters.

I'm with you on Kiviharju. Today he should probably be ranked #1 in the 2024 draft class. But of course they have 2 full seasons before draft day.
Kivi has been fantastic and against much older. He played U-20 in Finland top Jr league putting up 30 in 35. Being a Jan birthday he did this for much of the yr as a FIFETEEN yr old and he wore a letter doing so. That's crazy.
As a 16 yr old in this yrs U-18 WJC what jumped out to me most, despite his multiple elite toolkit, was his poise. Maybe the most poised U-18 WJC player I can remember and he was 16. https://www.eliteprospect...yer/526036/aron-kiviharju

This is absolutely what is going to happen in many instances, and your reasoning is solid.
That doesn't mean I agree with it or like it. - Chunk
VAN just signed 29 yr old JT Miller to a 7 yr deal at 8 mil per!! This thing might be ugly on the back end but unfortunately the cost of doing business it seems these days.
Seems the trick is getting creative dumping these guys in the last yrs of these deals.

There is that old '60's song where a guy says " I like dreaming, because dreaming can make you mine."
So we can use that logic about two good centers turn up
on our doostep.
After all rather dream than barf up the hard liquor you drank and got pissed off how bad the current team performs
Although.one note to those who are crowding up on the ledge in despair:
Is it.possible under the new coach that some young players perform well, the team is competitive despite loosing often, and we see some hope for the future as more and more youngsters filter in |

Well can the new announcer and the Carryover guys like the radio guy Wideman enthusiasticly and with the same rythmn of old times when they chirped "Banner.....man" merely substitute "Co...mes...so" and "So...der...man.?," |
