Define high hopes. Why did you conveniently leave out the other 2 players you mentioned son. |

Not sure how you've come to that conclusion. He's actually underpaid by that amount on his current deal. You wouldn't get a 30 goal 70 point Selke center for 7.75M a year on the open UFA market. - MJL
Right that's just it — UFA market is a rough one. So you either pony up cash and term or risk Sundin/Tavares'ing him away. It's the not the end of the world and not a horrible contract but I can still be critical of the contract. Sean Couturier was famous with his bridge contract around the league as having one of the best contracts. He's no longer on that list. |

He is a former. Do the analytics back that up the last couple years that he is still a selke level center?
So what do you think he would have got on the open market on a long term deal? - furio16
He has been a Selke level center his entire career. Playing on a bad team did not change that.

You don’t think there are hopes for Wade Allison? Why do you believe i owe you an explanation at all? Pride because you have yet to make a point? |

You can find vets that have leadership qualities as that is what you have said in the past. Again doing what he does helps this team how? They are not contenders. They will not be anytime soon.
He is a luxury on a bad team. - furio16
I disagree. It's more than just leadership. Again, he makes players he plays with better. The Flyers have issues with developing players. Near elite level players like Giroux and Voracek have already been removed. If you remove Couturier, it makes the situation worse. It would cause younger players to have to slot up. Putting more pressure on them. Couturier is not a luxury. He is an investment in the future.

He is a luxury. This team is spinning their wheels with him. The situation needs to get worse so you can have a better shot at high picks.
Investment in the future. That is an interesting take.
Do you think the GM should have built around his selke level #1 center
he just signed to an 8 year contract?

There is no guarantee with higher draft picks. It was imperative to have that support at the top for current and future young players.

Should the GM built around him? Why do you dance around questions being directly asked to you?
Never said there was a guarantee. What you do is put your team in the best position to get the best picks seeing where the Flyers are at and seeing how that draft is in 2023.
Had he been traded they would have received an extremely high end package. The future would have looked much better. What future do they have keeping him? Another few years of picks in the 10-15 range?
You can still find that support. |

The issue is that you don't seem to grasp when a question has been answered.

You can't completely ignore the development of current players to do so. As I stated previously, I don't think that anyone who thinks that they should've traded him is wrong. That certainly has merit.

I grasp it fine. You will not answer the simple question. It hasnt been answered.
Who said to ignore the development?
If another team re-signed their version of Couterier and was a bottom feeder I have no doubt you would criticize it 24/7

So if he is underpaid provide a money figure on what you think he would get.

Sure it has been answered. Your last statement is complete speculation with no basis in fact. It think stating that I believe it was imperative for the Flyers to re-sign Couturier for the reasons stated in multiple posts makes my position very clear.

No, this isn’t making a point. When you’re asking for a detailed essay on each prospect, you’re trying to prolong an argument because you can’t make a point. So make your point. |

Hasnt been answered. So should the GM have built around his selke level #1 center who he just signed to an 8 year deal while in his prime.
It is not clear as you preach a draft and develop approach. What good is that approach going to be for Couterier while still in his prime?
So then to set the record straight you think Chuck should be building around couturier?
Of course it speculation as I said I have no doubt you would criticize it.

No wonder you get mocked on these boards on a frequent basis.
