My buddy has been bugging me to read those books for a while now. - GreatGigInTheSky
He's only 4-10 of his books, but if he continues on this level, it'll probably be top-5 of all time. |

It's so good. If you aren't familiar with how Sanderson writes it can be really disorienting at first and a bit of a slog, but when you reach the ending you'll be hooked. The Way of Kings is an all-timer. The dude is great and that's easily his best book. |

It's not our fault that the U20's and Hlinka have turned into Canada vs the poop tier 2nd choices and the Americans now that the Russians are out. |

Chris Tolkien HATED the LOTR movies and they believe there's no way to do true justice to that book in film form. - BINGO!
Really? That's unfortunate. I can understand not liking the Hobbit movies but man, the extended editions of LoTR is fantastic.
They just think that about live action or would even an animated movie be no good? |

Children. The idea of Star Wars is great but that's it. Growing up is realising that it's meh. Even if Rogue One was a good movie. - GreatGigInTheSky
I have never understood the enduring hold that these crap movies have had on the world.
The first one was great - for its time. The special effects were great - for its time. The acting was truly terrible.
I have no idea why people liked the second one. Nothing happened. Like most middle movies of a trilogy, it really was just one long set-up for the third one.
I haven't seen the third one. Sorry, I lost interest when I saw the ewoks.
The fourth one was perhaps the worst movie ever made. Jar-Jar Binks alone would be enough to make this movie unwatchable. But the cute little Darth Vader kid is an awful plot thread, the only interesting character - Darth Maul - gets cut in half before we learn anything about him, and the rest is just crap.
I saw either the fifth or sixth one at a drive-in, and fell asleep. But it was terrible.
The seventh one was exactly like the first one. It was franking embarrassing.
And I haven't bothered to see the eighth or ninth.
How people are still throwing their money at this franchise is baffling.

Talk about wasted potential.
I've not watched the new Obi-Wan show, but I'll probably get around to it. And again, Rogue One was a good movie. I didn't care for the new trilogy at all. Saw the first one in theaters and that's it. |

I enjoyed it even if it was like only 6 episodes.
it was like watching a long movies that's been broken up into smaller segments. |

Movies don’t have to do true justice to books. They’re completely different medium and should be judged on their own. I have no problem with a filmmaker who completely changes a book to make it work on film |

Yep. I figure so long as you stay true to the feeling of the books and the heart of the story, you can adjust plot points as needed to make it fit.
If 90% of a character's narrative happens in their own head, you kind of have to adjust to make them interesting on screen. |

Nobody who had anything to do with LOTR's both literary and film are working with Amazon. |

They wanted to give Peter Jackson the scripts to review but there was some contractual thing that prevented it I guess. |

I copied and pasted this to my friends on discord. We had a debate is if this counts as a critique or not before the merits of it.
I believe star wars is highly overrated in just about everything they do.
