Will just throw it here, as I’m curious on perhaps Bill’s thoughts.
Replacing Chuck is not nearly enough.
Even if it’s an outside GM hire, which is unlikely to happen with Briere in the fold.
When you have men entrenched in various departments for far too many seasons, replacing one guy isn’t going to magically make the Flyers player development process better.
This team operates in a country club fashion, retaining scouts, coaches, advisors, and development staff without consideration for their job performance.
Any GM will be automatically handicapped being forced for work with these people. No, the changes need to come in areas beyond that of general manager. |

The same men that many revere for a time long gone…
It s the same men keeping us hostage to where this team is today.
Sure, this is Fletcher/Flahr running the team but I wonder how quickly they would have been replaced if segments of that old guard weren’t coddled, but ousted like Hextall did to them. |

I agree. Fletcher is a fair chunk but not the entire slice. Far too many holes in the organization but the GM is an easy place to start.

Of course one of the prospects would have an injury?

The front office is always talking about getting "Flyers Type players"
Which I guess means big and tough and physical who fight and intimidate the other team.
I guess that comes from the old guard.
There seems to be a disconnect between what the fans want and what they think the fans want?
Maybe the disconnect is in here? I don't know. It seems that in here we want a team that can compete in today's NHL..... fast and skilled.
I go to other places in social media where it seems like many of the fans want the Broad Street Bullies back.
It's obvious to us that the Bully mentality will not work. So who, in the end, is the organization trying to please? I guess as long as people still keep showing up they will take it as proof that the people want the goons.
Either way, with the old guard still having much influence, things will not change any time soon unless they start playing to empty arenas game in and game out.

I’ll add also… any defending of players or management is and should be classified as defending as it leads right back to that Total enema being needed |

Not so sure I agree completely.
You make a great point that the old guard has too much influence, and that the game may have slipped away from them.
However, That’s not the definition of “Flyer Players” most of us are thinking of. My personal idea of the ideal team lies in the chemistry of the overall team. A team of Wayne Gretzky’s in his prime would still get slaughtered on the ice. He needed guys like Dave Semenko and Marty McSorely to protect him. This league hasn't shown any consistency policing egregious fouls.
So to answer the question, it isn’t Flyer Players, as the front office calls them. It falls to how the team is constructed overall. Every tribe needed a chief, scouts, braves, etc.
When this staff figures out that formula, and drafts, trades, and puts together cohesive, complimentary players, they’ll have a shot. If not, it will be the same ole, same ole. No matter who is the GM.
I just hope when they clean house, upper management has the vision and implementation process to make it happen.
PS Nuttin wrong with a Tochett player. Guy could score and beat your brains in if necessary. Now THAT’S a hockey player! Not this ice Capades crap. Another of today, is a Nathan McKinnon. Same thing. Great teammate, skates like the wind, and can dance when called upon.

The primary belief thats clearly on display, is that they do not need to rebuild. That they can field a sustained competitor for a number of seasons by not having to do that. That they can win with a bunch of complimentary players, or find the needed key pieces in FA. I'm not sure why Comcast has it in their mind that any younger fan would be drawn to this team. For who? Kevin Hayes? For an obsession with boring hockey when other teams around the league play with speed, and creativity?
There is a belief here that they can outwork other teams, and win something worthwhile doing so even if they have drastically less talent. That just making the playoffs is good enough, because anything can happen.
Maybe Myrtetus could talk about that idiotic "plan" instead of ball licking the organization at every chance with DiMarco. |

It has zero to do with size or fighting.
Being a "Flyers type player" means refusing to get outworked. It means taking palpable pride in the team you play for, and putting team success over any personal goals.
Talk to Joe Watson or Simon Gagne about it. Was either guy big or physical? No. But they were Flyers through and through and took great pride in it. |

Unless they go on a run where they miss the PO's 9 out of 10 years like the Leafs did, I don't see them fundamentally changing the way they handle business.

Perhaps there will be a day when the team values talent as much as it values "working hard". When it values finding its next wave of young stars, more than slobbering over its former alumni.
They are infatuated with try hards, and it's worked out brilliantly. Good to see Stewart continue to be a charity case. |

There's no need for players for protection anymore. I agree nothing wrong with a Tochett player. Skill and toughness. Just toughness though. No need. It's a skating, passing, skill league. Have to be able to battle and win pucks. No need for players in the lineup because they can "dance".

This is the primary belief here. And I find it hard to believe, frankly. There is a difference between being old fashioned and being crazy, and this pov suggests the latter. |

Yeah, but isn't that any player on any team? I'm not sure why such a basic element of team sports could or should be considered exclusively a Flyers thing? |

It's a very strange concept for them to think they are the only team out there trying to focus on working hard, and being hard to play against. On coming into camp in great shape, or sticking up for teammates.
The only tangible thing I've heard them focus on is lowering GA. It's all Fletcher has cried about in terms of building a team, for his whole tenure. |

No offense bill and maybe that’s what you believe a “flyers player” is in examples of Watson and gagne but their actions say otherwise
1) trades for risto giving up major assets. Signs to horrendous extension
2) buyout of lindblom( who is definition of your examples by the way) and signs nick d
3) z.m. Offered qualify offer and signs eventual contract.
Their actions say otherwise. At least this year for sure |

Signing a 32 year old goalie with a total of 4 NHL games over 8 years to be your backup should help the GAA of the team. |
