I think the point the poster made was that you can’t waste a roster spot on a guy who brings nothing but fighting. Reaves, McCarron, D Lo, McEwen, Kurtis Gabriel, Zach Kassian, etc don’t bring anything else. The Tkachuk’s, Tom Wilson, Corey Perry, Maroon and even Lucic bring something along with the fighting. - Minnyhock
Kassian can play though clearly over paid. Actually shocked the GM didn’t go after him and get some picks back. Unfortunately he doesn’t think that way. |

Maybe watch their playoff games. You’ll find the answer there - Stayin alive
I did, not one goon on the ice.

Any idea what battle and win pucks means? I want my team to be strong and tough on the puck. Tough around the net at both ends in the greasy areas of the ice. I don't care about fighting or pushing other players around. If that's the only attribute that a player brings, then he is not a necessary player.
If you want to disregard the major problems with the organization and turn a blind yet. That's on you. - MJL
As usual you are wrong.
You absolutely still need a goon or at least someone that can actually fight especially during the playoffs. Look no further than breadman incident.
Yes it’s not used as much anymore but you saying there’s no need is wrong as usual.
Now had you said it’s not used as much or maybe not at top of list of priorities maybe that’s different.
But surely you can’t grasp that. Because ya know.
You’re always right
Cue the highlight you’re always right

It really isn't a difficult concept. - MJL
No it’s not difficult. Wrong as usual. Toughness in the form of puck battles and such is different than you (frank) with my players I bash your face in |

Seek therapy and then take a hockey 101 course. Start at the elementary level would be my advice to you.

There no goons left in the league. At least my definition of one.

Kassian is the best of the ones I mentioned. He has potential but hasn’t lived up to it. Kassian had consecutive seasons of 15 goals playing with McDavid. Not impressive at all.

I’m very glad you mentioned that last line. Kassian is a plug. |

I would agree this is not 1974 anymore, but I watch playoff hockey like a lunatic and to say that toughness is not important is off base. My opinion.
Not saying we need two goons on our 4th line, but there are many examples of teams who had the talent to win, however, they simply were not tough enough. Tampa for instance.. look at New York from the moment Panarin got jumped to now. They are a completely different team now because they are tougher. They just are.
Ya think TO misses Kadri?
Look at what adding Pat Maroon did for Tampa.
Teams need ditch diggers too. You can’t have 20 guys skating around like the ice capades. If that’s the makeup of your team, your superstars will without a doubt get taken advantage of..
Also let’s stop with blaming the supposed “old guard” for the ills of the current flyers. Their issues are because of Ron Hextall and Fletcher.
The old guard left the day to day when 27 started and Torts did not even interview with them. - Joe Nardone
agree. goons not needed. but having a physical presence goes a long way for the mental side. knowing you are going to lose a fight or get destroyed physically is just terrible for moral.
i've quoted players before for this argument. but someone once told me they don't care what the players said they are wrong....so there's that.
Easy to find, Richie talks about when the phantoms won the calder. and what they meant to the rookies in the ahl and the nhl.

True but I was actually being sarcastic and exercising my disappointment that the Flyers might be employing two stiffs like McEwen and Deslauriers. I think I get what you're saying in that they don't have the classic enforcer on their roster.

They should have given Sandstrom more games this year once the year went awry so they had a better idea if he could handle the back up role. - rayc16
Agreed, and with all their younger players at every position. There was no need to play vets that have no future with this team going forward. |

Correct I don’t want either but to me neither are goons.
Those days are gone where intimidating worked and as a player you may be a little scared. Those Players do not exist any longer. Nothing to be scared about in 2022.
As Don Corleone said to Johnny Fontaine, me a man.
Also don’t think ND is that bad just bad fit for the flyers. Def overpaid. |

I check in once a week to see if Fletcher and the country club have been fired. If not, this organization is not worth any attention beyond that. |
