By your definition they do.
- furio16

The term goon is overused. The whole bullies/living in the past argument is lame. Some peeps will label anyone who gets in 2-3 fights a year a goon. I wish the Flyers had guys like Simmonds (when he was in is prime), but we have guys like ND and Zack. I have nothing against ND & Zack since 4th line gets minimal minutes anyway and I don't consider them goons.

Would you say Frost is strong on the puck?
- konalover711

Not yet but he will be! Remember he should still be considered a rookie because his missed time due to injury.

All jokes aside, we haven't had many players strong on the puck in years. We have been way too easy to play against. I'm not saying guys like ND are the answer. I'd love to have guys like Wilson, Landeskog, etc, but sadly they aren't that easy to get.

Dismissing the 4th line because they get minimal minutes is a mistake. Why would you not have anything against players, who in minimal ice time get caved in when they're on the ice? Do nothing but spend the majority of their ice time defending. Have a GF% of around 35-40% and get routinely outshot and out chanced? The main point is why do we want players that the only thing they do well is fight and generally stink at hockey?

The term goon is not overused. It's rarely used anymore as the sport has evolved.

No, he shouldn't be considered a rookie anymore. He has played a total of 77 NHL games I believe. The upcoming season will be his second NHL season basically in terms of experience.

As I've mentioned before, I don't follow other teams anymore other than the Flyers. For the most part, the Flyers 4th line gets maybe 8-9 minutes a game. I'm not going to hate on ND, Zack, Nate, etc bc of their limited skills. The Flyers are paying them...not me (I don't go to games anymore). It's the Flyers brass that is the problem so no use whining about "goons" like ND on a daily basis. It's not ND's fault that they gave him a bad contract. And yes, goon is used often on here. You earlier said that the Flyers have 2 of them.

Yes, I understand. He also spent time with the Phantoms, so he still has a lot to prove. Again, I'm not a Frost hater...I'm just skeptical about him becoming a complete 1/2 line player. I know he is more of a playmaker and that's fine. He had a few decent games this past season but still has a lot to prove. He was not tough to play against in the games that I saw. Hopefully he will bulk up a little and improve.

Until I see it with my own eyes I will look at Frost as an overmatched player physically at the NHL level. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't know if he has what it takes to compete at the NHL level on a nightly basis. I get it that his job isn't to knock guys on their ass, but you need to compete for pucks and win some puck battles or your stay in the NHL will be a short one unless you can somehow be a consistent/prolific point producer. FIRE CHUCK! Labor Day is almost here. Thanks!

Careful. The highly intelligent laughers on hb that believe they have inside joke can’t comprehend what’s referred to as lazy English. That this isn’t the 1600’s.

It’s COULDNT care less

Sorta like intensive purpose compared to intents and purposes which takes longer to type for those in the back of the room.

Joke per usual is on mjl.

I received your application for class next week. I’ll consider it. I also received mbflyers application.

It has zero to do with size or fighting.

Being a "Flyers type player" means refusing to get outworked. It means taking palpable pride in the team you play for, and putting team success over any personal goals.

Talk to Joe Watson or Simon Gagne about it. Was either guy big or physical? No. But they were Flyers through and through and took great pride in it.

- bmeltzer

Bill that certainly hasn’t been true in years!!They haven’t outworked anyone.oh boy does torts have his work cut out for him.

Goon is rarely used. Maybe you should come around more often. Your post makes zero sense. The Flyers are paying them....not me? That's ridiculous. Are you still a Flyers fan? Do you want them to do well? It's not ND's fault they gave him a bad contract so therefore we should just accept that he's a bad player or it doesn't matter? What are you talking about?

Oh it's lazy but other than for the humor, I don't really care about that. What really matters is your uninformed daily posting.

I'm all for time saving. If it takes a millisecond less to post, hey, go with the lazy english. Time is money.

How many contracts are the Flyers at currently? Still have Allison and Hogberg to sign I believe as well. I am sure Chuck has left himself some wiggle room.

I think the reason those attributes swing in is because they are picking not at the top end and especially after the 1st round. A high skill guy with any semblance of a well-rounded game is gone by then. Choice becomes between high skill rawness which may or may not pan out. And some less random attributes like 'toughness' and '200 foot game' which are surer things. And they choose the surer things, which shows that they either have no patience, or no faith in their staff to develop those raw skills.
- PT21

Not really.

Case in point, 2013 draft... they chose to take a guy who's absolute ceiling was Zac Rinaldo (Tyrell Ghoulbourne) while skilled, two-way guys like Buchnevich, Guentzel and Bjorkstrand were still available. Now all those players are top-line, all-situations NHL wingers.

That's after throwing away the 11th-overall pick on a guy who never exhibited any sort of skill (Morin), while talented two-way guys like Morrissey, Pulock and Theodore were available. Those guys are now all top-pairing dmen.

Nobody is saying that they would have picked those other players for certain, but it just shows that this team is simply not prioritizing the right things when evaluating talent.

So assuming they re-sign Allison and Hogberg it will be 48. I think those are the only 2 left.

All one can do is shake your head. Klotz another example.

What goes through your mind when you know his ceiling is that of a 4th line player to take in the 3rd rd? Dime a dozen guys who grow on the summer vine. Why are you not taking high ceiling higher risk guys?

Aint't even hindsight either. Ghoul was a head-scratcher from the moment the pick was made. And it played out exactly as expected.

Same w/ Big Sam. People were like... huh?

Unless I am incorrect Sam wasn't that much of a reach. Wasn't I want to say Montreal looking at him?

Either way there were better players to take. Especially when you say he is a project from jump street. You do not take a project with your only 1st rd pick seein where the Flyers were at.

Yes to Ghoul I remember vaguely.

Montreal wanting him should have been a red flag in and of itself.
