Does anyone think that fleece me feltcher signed these guys to purposely go for a silent tank?
Sure TDA isn't w tank job name but hw had to make it look good and not like he is trying to purposely tank.
I can't stand CF but he is either an absolute moron (highly possible) or he is pulling off a covert tank job because he knows this team sucks or he is an uncovered genius.
If the hockey gods finally show us some love how will you feel about him if we gets a top 2 pick?
I am in NO way saying I support CF at all but maybe he realized that our only chance is to draft a generational talent in this draft?
Again, he is most likely the biggest idiot GM in the NHL but if we got a top 2 pick I'd give him a solid pass for this roster assembly
This is all pipe dreaming but items the only hope that I have going into this season.
Please let us finish bottom 3 in the league

The hiring of Tortorella tells me it is not.

He didn’t suggest the majority.

The team could care less about who goes. (Pun intended)

They care about maybe ticket sales.

They market gimmicks to drive ticket sales. They don’t really target just one certain type group

When discussing who the team is catering to as fans, it's safe to assume that they would cater to the majority.

It doesn't have to be a majority. All it does is to be equal or greater than the # of informed fans (as exemplified by Tomahawk and his ilk who might get pissed off at illogical hockey strategy) and that would still be a revenue adding step.

.

- PT21

How is the team determining who is informed or who isn't? I would venture to think that they don't care if you're informed as long as you come to the game and spend money. To suggest that the team is prioritizing fans who just want to have a good time and is catering to them and that is an explanation for how they run the team, doesn't add up. It's always about the on ice product. The overwhelming majority of fans want to see their team do well and to win. Want to see a good hockey game for spending that coin. Not spend it on watching a non competitive team and saying, hey, I had a great time with my buddies. Again, they could watch the game at the corner bar with their buddies and save a bunch of money

Meaning that maybe Flyers are a bit more canny than you think in catering to guys like him and not you. Lets see what the attendance figures are for this season.
- PT21

For sure, there is an appetite and expectation for that kind of hockey player in Philly and the team still panders to that. We talk as if the team should be solely focused on winning, but at the end of the day, it's about producing an entertainment product that locals will be willing to pay to watch.

So they fired Hextall because progress wasn't made fast enough. Held press conferences over multiple years saying that they want to be relevant. Want to be a cap team and want the GM to have an action bias. Hire Fletcher and he proceeds to trade youth and draft picks. Caps the team out with older players. Hold more press conferences saying they're a handful of players away. Spend millions on high level coaches. However now they're going to reverse course and Fletcher is going to brilliantly without informing the fans, put the team in stealth tank mode?

It depends on what you mean by stealth tank. The way I see it being perhaps possible is: he has a mandate to have the club finish in the top 25 odd, and he might be going for the end of that.

Would going for 7 somehow lead to ending up at 2? Very, very unlikely. There are teams that are going to aim for those spots this season, and luck rarely beats intent.

Fascinating insight, but I never said "just".

The context is that workmanlike/blue-collar players Tomahawk said they were drafting over some time, and I am suggesting the fans they gain by that may swamp out the informed fans they lose.

I can see that. Team management giving a GM a mandate to finish in the top 25 out of a 32 team league. Sounds like a successful organization. "Listen, we're giving you a mandate to be mediocre. Fail and you're fired"

By not including other team related factors, that person just enjoys the atmosphere and has a great time. The on ice product doesn't matter. There are other elements of the paying customers that probably don't care. Such as the businesses that rent out the suites. However the season ticket base as a whole, surely cares. I don't see Deslaurier or Ristolainen and their physical play overcoming a losing and boring team for the majority of true hockey fans.

I think you essentially pronounced des noir, which I think means of the Blacks, or Black folks.

Like, Elliot Des Noir would mean Elliot of the Black Folks.

Maybe someone with better French can correct me.

Nice try suddenly conflating majority and majority of true hockey fans.

IIRC they made a lot of renovations to draw the I just want to hang out crowd.

Didn’t they add some dumb ass room to break things?

LMAO. There is no conflating. The majority of the fan base are true hockey fans. You would think a team would cater to the majority, which are true hockey fans. They aren't paying all that money for the atmosphere and to Tomahawk's point I don't see some physical play being enough entertainment to offset watching a bad and boring team. It was difficult last season to keep the game on TV and not change the channel. It was a cure for insomniac. Imagine spending a 150 bucks for that.

Why is it so difficult for you to follow a conversation?

Bingo, the front office could care less about who goes. I know many people who go to games for work events, social events, etc. They don't follow the Flyers and will only watch them if/when they are in the playoffs. Of course there are also loyal fans, families, etc that go so that's what gimmicks are for.

99% of your posts are reactions to someone. 90% of that 99% is critical. That makes for 89.1. And 90% of that time you have misread/misinterpreted/or at best, not given the poster the benefit of possible meaning before you post, which rounds to about 80%.

If it is beyond your capacity to correct this, which I think it is, could you not blindly just delete 4 of every 5 posts you make? That would make the remaining posts of sufficiently quality to make you an average poster on this site.

- PT21

Good stuff although I think you are being generous with 90% being critical. I'd bump it up to 95%.
