I met you back in 1994 Kevin when I was writing as a high school junior for Michigan Hockey Magazine. God that was a long time ago. Can we get a new Red Wings blogger please??? - Big Daddy J
Looks like you might get a new writing job. |

This may sound like typical snark from an Avs fan but I actually have a huge amount of respect for Yzerman as a GM (and as a person - him sending a draft pick to STL so he could legally talk to Husso early says all you need to know about him). Having said that, when i saw this image from a Wings tweet about new numbers it seemed like an odd hodge podge of acquisitions for a team in the middle stage of a rebuild (other than Husso who was one of the best goalies available). As much as everyone likes Copp is he the kind of guy that team needs now? Maybe Yzerman wanted a Palat type but why not just sign Palat? Stevie Y knows a hell of a lot more than I do about being a GM but this just looks like a bunch of minutes eaters keeping prospects from playing.

Lehner being out is a massive plus for Vegas. - TurdFergeson
Didn't Lehner play with both a shoulder and knee (meniscus) that needed surgery? And now we're told he needs hip surgery. With all that he went 23-17 with a .907 / 2.83 and was actually positive GSAx with +6.1. The way Vegas fans look down on that guy is a constant source of amazement. He looked like he could barely move at the end of the season. |

A few thoughts...
-half of those guys were signed for the AHL
-a couple of these signings are just lateral moves. Lose Leddy and Staal. Add Chiarot and Matta. Not that much better to me.
-guys like Perron, Copp, Chiarot were mostly there to provide a bit more stability and veteran leadership to mentor all the young players coming in. The young core has just had a revolving door of support players so now they get a few guys signed for multiple years.
-but I agree with your overall point...the Wings never had any lotto luck. Seider and Raymond are very good young players. But even with several years near the bottom they didn't get a 1C or superstar. No McDavid, Matthews, Makar. Not even close. Now that the team is starting to improve the window to land a top 2 or 3 pick is basically closed. Not sure they can progress to a true Cup contender. My fear is they climb into that middle tier of not being a legit threat, but not able to draft top talent. It can take 10-20 years to recover from that, bottom again, and get lucky in the lotto. |

That's exactly what it feels like and much better said than I did. They seem only about half way done with the rebuild but are already adding a bunch of veteran stability / role player types but with no real elite guys to match. Maybe Seider or Raymond become that but they don't have that sort of pedigree. And they're too far away (and will stay too far away) from really sucking to get a top pick.

a team that has a reputation for pushing the envelope when it comes to hard-nosed play.
Why is this still a thing? This hasn't been the Flyers in decades yet the media around the country still, to this day, continues to push this narrative.
Perhaps because I live in the area I don't get to read what other media in other markets believe the Flyers are? Is this what they actually think? That the Flyers are this big tough fighting team that plays with an edge?
Seems to me it is just lazy journalism. |

Well let’s see. The guy has never really proven he can be a number one goalie. However, they get rid of a number one goalie and make him the number one for reasons no one can really explain.
He is overpaid and fortunate to have a job after many chances and then proceeds to spew nonsense about other teams in the league and becomes a cancer in his own locker room.
Are you still amazed?

Anyone who thinks the flyers have been a tough team since the early 2000s clearly does not watch them.
This team has not been tough for years and has not focused on tough to play against players in decades. |

Only 23 players in history have hit 65 goals in the playoffs. Wtf are you talking about? - AdamFrench
Back under your Leafs fan bridge, troll. As a Leafs fan, of COURSE you don’t know what I’m talking about when it comes to playoff success. Let me guess, next you’ll post a meme…. |

Seems to me it is just lazy journalism. - MBFlyerfan I already called this guy lazy on his original thread, so no need to do it again. I actually think it's more the Canadian media members that think in this archaic way. I listen to some of those stodgy Canadian turds on Sirius/XM NHL radio and they still hate the Flyers from their Bully days. It's like some of these Canadians are stuck in the 1970's and can't find their way out.

I cannot wait for Matthews to become a UFA after the 23-24 season when the Coyottes start to come into their own, new arena and home town star signs the deal of a lifetime in Arizona! Bill Armstrong is going to put together a monster in the desert. Look out Diamondbacks, look out Sun, their will be a new Sheriff in Town! |

I am assuming Matthews contract with the Coyotes will be in the $13M dollar range. A slight hometown discount to help bring the cup to his hometown.
I can’t wait for a top six of Keller - Matthews - Cooley, Schmaltz - Bedard - Guenther. It’s gonna be electric!

So sounds like Kadri deal with the Isles done and will finally be announced? I guess they weren’t circling back to JTM after all…
Or according to Freidman it may be Calgary? |
