Girgs is good at
- the cycle game down low wearing out other 4th line opponents w few scoring opportunities and blowing them when produced
-stealing $2.75 from the Owners and making them like him while doing so.
He is bad at the PK.
Paid $2.745 too much. - IonSabres
his defensive numbers were pretty good last season. his pk slipped from being a pos to a neg.

am i the only one on this board that wants good players and also be good and also be better than last year.
because monahan fits in no categories of the above. - TheSabresTaco

Did you know:
In extremely similar minutes and games played, Vinnie was 9x more positively effective than Monahan? |

Does Bishop? If they aren't making a real effort next year, I'd rather get a 1st for my cap space than nothing.

when you take away the franchise mode mindset of fans and exclude the ol dump em in rochester idea, you have a 6 million dollar entirely worthless entity in your lineup instead of literally anyone else on this team because they're all more useful.
Well, you know, except for Anders.

That's why Monahan gets a 1st and Bishop gets a 7th.

are we absolutely certain that after 3 years, monahan will be useful
and
why are we making excuses for him
and
why are we comparing a useful player to a useless player making..

I'll take the better 2022 team instead of the hopeful 2028 version of (frank) I dunno Noah (frank)in Juulsen.

Hey I don't want him, I would have taken the 1st and the possibility he he comes back half way Decent and maybe you get a additional asset at the TDL. So instead or 62m the cap is 68.5m. But I got a future 1st and I eat his cap for 1yr. Oh and when healthy he can put up 60pts, which could possibly happen because he hasn't been healthy in 3yrs. |

If we are here in 2028 and this team is desperate for 2026 late 1st round guy to become something, we are beyond, beyond (frank)ed. |

look. if they said, hey, here's our 2023 1st, fine whatever.
But (frank) man this thing is like 3 years away and 5 years at least from being something useful. And that's a maybe.
I get it "Oooh a first", but poop man... a player you hope is just starting here in 5 years?
Look at our prospect pool. This place should be OVERFLOWING with talent come 2025, 6 and 7.
I also don't buy that Monahan isn't the next Turris. |

No we're not, but I got a future 1st that could help my team, and the possibility of more at the TDL if he plays decent. |

I think that's where we fork off. I think he's a waste of space on the ice, on this roster and the asset acquired with him holds little value to me.

If you wanted a better 2022 team, there were a lot of options. Priority was the cheapest possible 2022 team. No one should be happy with that.

I just don't see how it hurts the team, competition is good and if he doesn't beat out anyone so be it. |

While I get what you are saying, should always look to keep restocking the shelves.
Monahan doesn’t move the needle, also doesn’t really block anyone (and if he does, press box him, who gives a (frank) about his feelings). I also agree with the sentiment of wanting to get better players. At this juncture (both current off-season and current state of the Sabres) that’s a little tough to do. |

This attitude of look at the cap we barely spent anything is irritating. You and I both know why this roster is constructed the way that it is, and that is because of the overabundance of ELC and first standard contracts.
You wanna trade half these guys outta here and sign Nazem Kadri and the like to mega deals, whatever. I don't. You wanna trade Joker and Mitts for junk, fine, whatever. |

Also under no obligation to keep him in the NHL, if he's that bad.

Overall, I understand the sentiment. You want another quality lottery pick, even though it's late and in 3-4 years from now. But that asset to this iteration of the Buffalo Sabres is hardly worth diddly cock.

but they will. calgary did, montreal will, and so would buffalo. he's junk and he goes against everything anybody in this org and outside of it wants. And that's to be better.
way I see it is the return isn't good enough to have cody eakin here for another year. I guess i'm in the minority, and that's fine. make the pick better. |

Accumulation of assets is always a good thing. And for this, all that was needed was cap space, and maybe, but not necessarily, a roster space on a team that isn’t ready to compete anyways. You said it best, Monahan is zero. Not good, not overly bad though, on the whole. Just zero. And to this iteration, I just don’t see the negative. But I don’t think I’ll convince you, so it’s all good. No point in merry-go rounding |
