Here's a 3 minute video of modern goalies laying the body when players get to close for comfort. They have a right to defend themselves.

1:50 Carey makes the same play as Dell and lays the boom to a NYR player that skates in his path. Bush League some would say here... From an all-world goalie

Yes its a garbage play because the unwritten rule of you cant touch the goalie regardless of where on the ice.

ya know, for such an old team, the islanders have an extraordinary amount of homegrown players. Of their 21 current players, only Clutterbuck, JPG, Parise, Palmieri, Romanov and Varlamov are imports. By comparison, the Caps and Pens, similarly aged teams, only their best players are homegrown.

I think it comes down to more people trusting Steve Yzerman combined with his free agency haul that gets everyone's rockets so hard. I'd contend that the Sabres should have similar markings in many of those categories. Not free agency. They had the same rank last year yet there's still the exact same amount of confidence. So. Ya know. That's like your opinion man.

Having guys like Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond come on hard helps the ranking.
