I think roster construction is number one on the list. Okposo would not make a competitive nhl roster, extending him just because he is a good guy is bad roster management, giving him the captaincy is equivalent to Steve Ott as the C, purely emotional with 0 upside.

This is a terrible post.

He could slot into any bottom 6 in the league. Solid defensive player that puts up points

kadri has always put up decent second line stats

he got paid 7 per, not 11

decent second line center contract for the next 3 years

he will fall off a cliff at some point and I think they would have been better off going 4 years for a little more per

- homiedclown

He definitely wanted the term. Teams probably threw small contracts at him left and right but it wouldn't be worth it at his age.

Imthatguy forgets its a business and not just for teams. For players too.

Kulich is playing for the Amerks this year.

He's got the size and speed for it, imo.

Then let him walk into ufa or trade him, what would you expect in return for such a player?

Surprised no teams have made any offers to help them go for a deep run in the playoffs while the Sabres and Okposo lived in the basement of the league. Even if the Sabres retained 50% what would you expect?

I think if he has the same kind of year that he had last year he could get a second with 50% retained. That said, I don't think there is any way that he is traded.

Tough to justify $3 million for a role player, let alone 6.

It would be great if that happens this season, I agree though there is no chance it will.

Can't beileve they have Detroit's goalies at a 2... They were not very good last year

Husso stunk up the joint in the p-offs. Nedel didn't even show up during the season

when you have a plethora of picks it aint worth giving up a player that helps along your youngins.

Basic knowledge you do not comprehend.

Clearly declining? What did you watch last year
- DirtyDan

Damn near every Sabres game, sure he had a nice year for someone who should be getting paid 2-3 million maybe.

21 goals and 45 points is not that much anymore.. It is baffling to me how so many of you want to resign a player who a few years ago damn near everyone wanted to buyout but now we want to extend him to be the DAD. The Bar is so franking low with this team. you want a VET, Go sign Pat Kane Next year, take the 6 mill you save on Okie and 3 more and tell pat Kane we will offer him a 3 year 27 Mil contract. There now you have a veteran that can score 75 pts in his sleep.

Husso could very well be a starter in this league but he has proven very little.

Reggie Dunlop is worth an 23’ nhl 2nd round pick, appreciate the knowledge

*at 50% retained, what a great player to lead

What does him getting paid have anything to do with his play now? When he signed the contract we knew he wasnt worth it... We have heeps of money this year and next so his cap hit means nothing to me.

Pat Kane doesnt play a bottom 6 defensive role or Penalty kill....

But he still does have the ability to take over a game. Maybe not as often, but the talent and skill is still there. Okposo has always been a career underachiever. That comparison is apples and oranges.

So the player they brought in to be the leader/support for Eichel and Skunk…now is the same leader to lead this new group…

that is what I do not get on these tiers

the unknown is ok for detroit for goalies

but drops us to the bottom in centers, d and lw, with only 3 teams worse then us in the rankings

You take out Okposo who plays a defensive role. Pat Kane is not filling that void.

This is the basics ppl.

9 mill a year for Kane...

You guys are bad at this NHL stuff

- DirtyDan

You have your opinion, I have mine. We should not be extending a 35 year old penalty killer who at his VERY best is going to get 45 pts. I highly doubt he hits those numbers again. My guess this year would be 12-goals and 15- assist 25-30 pts...ish..

We have too many more talented guys that can take that spot.

PS wyou want a bottom 6 Plugger, keep Girgs or go get larry back.

Yes, the 1st line rw becomes 2nd, who becomes 3rd line who becomes 4th.

Better player fill the void, this is basics people

So you want to keep a 35 year old plug.. Rather then give that spot to a younger player ( you know, the future of the team)

This team had a -58 goal differential. The only teams that look at a player like Okposo and say an extension is essential are ones that aren't serious about winning championships, either currently or in the future. That's addiction to mediocrity, and even that is probably generous.

Why can he not be C for 2 years lets say? How does that hurt the future of this team?

Dahlin isn't the guy. Cozens to young. I honestly don't think it should be Tuch.

Okposo rides into the sunset with the C or you can take it off him and Give it to Cozens in 2 years when hes just about in his Prime.

I don't think anyone has said its essential but hes a great player for his role and has a great attitude. A 1 or 2 year extention should not be a big deal. I'll take Okposo over Kyle Clifford or the Avalanches Logon O'connor

We had the worst goalie group... maybe ever.... The goal differential is not based on one player who did his job

And adding the greatest American player of all time is spending unwisely vs extending Okposo…delusional

why does he need a C on his chest to be a leader... He in no way shape or form should be in a Sabres uniform "on the ice" after this year.
