So you want to keep a 35 year old plug.. Rather then give that spot to a younger player ( you know, the future of the team)

which young player are we slotting into a defensive role like that? PK time and all.

You guys want Peterka on the 4th line?

And adding the greatest American player of all time is spending unwisely vs extending Okposo…delusional
- washedup20

9mill over 3 years for a aging player is bad idea. If the money fits for those 3 years sure I'll take Kaner. But doesnt make it a good idea.

extending Okposo for what maybe 2 million? For what.. another year? Doesnt hurt this team whatso ever.

Think about that for a second, would you rather one of the leading point getter on your AHL team or you want a 35 year old washed up player?

so I think you know my answer.

Plus how many Rookies come in playing on your top line? He is going to start in a bottom 6 role.

He may very well need to be there. I know we like what he brings to the table, but his skill level is so-so. There very will could be a bigger learning curve than many expect.

And adding Kane and losing Okposo has a more positive outcome on the win column than keeping Okposo and not getting Kane, all else being equal.

Okposo the human being is a great guy, and his story is heartwarming. The thing we're all missing is that the win column doesn't know that, or care.

for all things that are holy..... Do you want to win? PK can but 45 pts on the board by Christmas.

Extending Okie brings ZERO value on the ice vs playing the younger guys.

But you did not factor in money.

Im not saying Okposo helps this team more than Kane.

okposo for his worth which will be like a million after this year. Hurts nothing. Not cap not roster construction, literally nothing.

Kane at 9 million over 3 years has way more ??????

Yes lets start him 4th line, low minutes on the PK. Lets not have him in a more offensive role to start.

When you're talking about a team that needs to acquire a retired goaltender just to get to the floor, that shouldn't matter. We're not talking about some 7-8 year mega deal.

That aging player had 92 points on a non-playoff team…last season. That $9 million is more effectively spent adding him to the lineup, plus he adds actual winning leadership vs Kyle Okposo.

Eichels best year was 82 points at $10 million, like you say, the Sabres have the money. Spend it efficiently not emotionally because a group of kids who finished bottom 10 feel comfortable

We have to start paying people at some point. And it wont start with a near 35 year old Kane at 9 million for 3 years.

Not only that, they needed to play at an unsustainable pace the last month and a half of the season just to get to 7th worst.

My point exactly....

Okposo is better for that role than Murray or Biro

Aplund plays LW Okposo plays RW.

Extending him for another year does not hurt this team at all in any way.

Pat Kane IMO is the perfect Vet to sign after next year. Ton of offensive upside, has won 3 cups, been through the grinds of the playoffs. I would be saying to sign him even if he was not from Buffalo.

Signing a Pat Kane to a 3 year deal even at 8-9 Million is not going to hurt this team one bit, when players like Okie, Girgs, Anderson are all going to be gone. We will have like 40 Million in Cap space to sign like 6 players next summer....

I have to admit it, GMKA is in great shape cap wise even if we do sign a Pat Kane for the short term.

Tough to justify $3 million for a role player, let alone 6.

It would be great if that happens this season, I agree though there is no chance it will.

- washedup20

The Cap hit is the issue, NOT the player
Any Okposo extension would certainly come at a much lower Cap Hit

Stays at Tier 3. Okposo and Kane at 36 is a major unknown

For me its the player... I like Okie, I really do, but I am not wasting a roster spot on a 35 year old penalty/checking line bottom 6 forward when I have younger faster cheaper players waiting in the wings that can do the same.

I would love Kane don't get me wrong. Problem is in year 2 or 3.

We have to pay nearly everyone on this team in the next 2 years.

If they could do the same they would be here already... We don't know they can.

We know Okie is a solid 4th line player that can put up 40 pts.
