I’d say they are all factors.

I can remember booking the 27th off work every year because the hangovers would be epic. Attending or hosting watch parties, even for games that started at 4am.

I went to a couple games when it was in Victoria (and Vancouver), but can’t say I’ve watched a full game on TV in a decade.

I've been asking all types of people why they are not following knowing how much they waive the flag over the holidays for this event. These are mostly not Albertans(only 3 who were not born there) but it's "I'm trying to enjoy the summer while it lasts" "Im not at home much to watch the games" "Hockey is the last thing I'm thinking about" "can't afford to go to the pub" etc....

People are disgusted with what happened long ago now that it's out in the open but none have said they are not following the WJC because of it. Not even the woman I've spoken with. It appears to be a minority and I haven't talked with many people around here so it's not regional... this is with people Canada wide.

If this was the Olympic games with NHL players it would be different even though it's still Hockey Canada... People would be interested by the millions. The current kids are not at blame for this controversy but some of the players that would make team Canada for the Olympics potentially would be. Just like the NHL games they are watching now.

I do think past Covid complications have hit this tourney hard. Not in Marwood's limited vision. Obviously there are no restrictions now but between the time gap and still not back to normalcy, it's really screwed the tourney up. He thinks Covid has no affect on the tourney currently??? OK, why is this tourney in the middle of the summer?

Logic.

Just the way it is.

Um, ok.
- Marwood

So Albertan's are leading the charge on PC now.

Been in a recession since 2014 so NO? Um, the longer the recession, the harder the hit. lol...

Removing a power house team from this event doesn't water down the competition?

OK Marwood.

My father keeps turning to the Blue Jays even though they are sucking bad. I asked why bother? His reason is Miller and Johnson who are doing the play by play are ruining the games for him. Multiple shift are passing with up and down play while they talk about player stories and player details. Once in a while "as he skates down the ice is added" but rarely is Miller even using player names so he has no idea who the players are on the ice shift to shift. He isnt like some of us that know these details... he needs a quality play by play to stay interested. The coverage is dreadful

For me, now that the lake fishing is off... I sit in front of the air conditioner doing War Thunder tournaments... in between battles, I check the ticker to see if any of our boys are on the board. It's simply not as interesting as it was pre covid. The hype and buzz has vanished... Canuck's don't have anyone exciting in. Lekkerimaki will have his day but he's not very exciting now. I've watched bits and pieces of his games only but mostly his clips, not live.

Well, I’m not not watching because of Hockey Canada’s rapey past. I honestly don’t think they should even be allowed to participate in this (or any) event until they come totally clean and implement significant changes. The Russian federation (and Belarus) is banned because of their countries politics but Hockey Canada, the organization who basically sanctioned rape by its members is allowed to participate. It’s pretty hypocritical.

I agree and I would never claim there are no people who feel that way about HC. They are a minority though... sad but true. Unless you are Albertan then they are unified against HC's sexual deviant past according to Marwood.

I know this topic means a lot to you... long before this new controversy surfaced even.

It’s because it’s in the summer and the cost of tickets. Junior hockey, you should see tons of kids running around that arena. IIHF greedy for $ and it’s come back to slap them in the face.
Too bad, Canada has a very good team. I don’t remember who in here was the big Mason McTavish fan, but this kids going to be a lot like Jonathan Toews, Anaheim got a gooder.

If this tourney was in the Cariboo... I'd not be able to afford it. It's a juggling act for me because of fuel prices and all the inflation. Prices for groceries are through the roof here. Way worse than the city. I'd have to choose between being able to fish, eat and transportation to watch a watered down event. No thanks...

So Albertan's are protesting long past sexual misconduct by the tens of thousands. They refuse to spend their money because of the stink of Hockey Canada's reputation. They are demanding HC get with the times and get rid of the Ol' Boys Club and hire more woman to fix this black eye they are giving good Canadians. Got it.

You sure know how to contradict your own narratives. According to your narratives, there should be standing room only and massive prices for scalp tickets out on the streets.

All your claims to why the arena's are empty... these building are in Alberta. You also named the recession in Alberta specifically as not being a reason.

Alberta has been in a 'recession since about 2014. The stink of Hockey Canada is still too putrid for many fans.

You mention both Alberta and fans turning their back on HC in the same statement.

You could just admit there is a flaw in that idea of yours and still hold onto your hatred for Alberta.

What a dilemma this must be. Admit you may be wrong... or playing Alberta off as being the most woke in Canada.

Nice try.

Wrong. No COVID restrictions, plenty of good competition without Russia and Alberta has been in a 'recession since about 2014. The stink of Hockey Canada is still too putrid for many fans.

You are switching the narrative.

So, answer this... if like you say Covid has nothing to do with it, and the competition isn't watered down, and Alberta's recession has nothing to do with it.... what is the reason for the empty buildings? I stated my reasons... and you told me I was wrong and followed up with the sentiment of Canadians as being the reason... so why are the buildings in Alberta empty again?

Shameless...

Coach of the All Blacks is getting 'Travis Green'd' right now.
Better game against the Springboks tho.

Just got back from a quick work trip in Wellington, which reminded me of Vancouver.
Quite wet today and warm in Auckland.

Looking forward to Xmas in Vancouver/Mexico this year.
Hope to catch a Canucks game in December.
