Kerfoot for Trenin and a pick makes sense.
But I'd love Jeannot. Pipe dream though I think. |

Knies feels like a “ I told you so pick” by Dubas. Always getting criticized for drafting smart little forwards, knies is anything but intelligent, often making blind Hope plays to no one. Hes got the size and you can’t teach big but hopefully this kid can make a lot of improvement on and off the puck. |

Yes, Monahan. So who does Montreal move to make room? I’m getting dizzy - Canada Cup
Drouin isn't enough. I thought it might have to do with whatever Nashville is announcing, but they have no money either. The Habs still don't even have enough to sign Dach.
I mean let's say Calgary retains $1.5 on Monahan, bringing him to around $3.8, can he be moved by Montreal then with some retention for a pick or incentive? Who knows? The math of it is still missing some equations before it's all done, that's for sure!
Edit: Nashville is just draft & awards - who f'n cares? Is Monahan healthy? Is Price?Drouin? I don't get the move for the Habs. |

Reports are that Monahans rehab is ahead of schedule. So looks like he will be on the roster opening night. If he was LTIR the flames would have just kept him. |

So. In a nutshell, this is Calgary:
In
Huberdeau
Weegar
Kadri
2025 lottery protected 1st
Out
Gaudreau
Tkachuk
Monahan
Gudbranson
Reported 1st to Montreal
2025/2026 4th
Their D gets better, but in some ways it doesn't get as better as just adding Weegar would do for most teams - because it was already excellent. Weegar makes them better - he's better than Gudbranson, for instance - and whichever role Weegar takes, the person playing those Gudbranson minutes will likely do a better job - and Weegar will probably be a bit of an improvement over whoever he replaces - but those incremental improvements (I expect Weegar displaces Kylington) won't be that Earth shattering because they were already very good.
Losing Tkachuk sucks. He's a better pest than most in the league, and he's physical, and he plays in areas where other people don't want to be. Tkachuk is like a dirty bumhole, and Kadri is, by comparison, like a sun bleached bumhole. You know. You still ask things like, "Why do you do that?" but it's for a different reason. I don't think Kadri situates in the dirty areas, but he'll go there. Kadri is more of a distributor than a shooter, and he is 32.
Losing Gaudreau really sucks. He's an engine. I really like Huberdeau as a distributor, but he's less of a carrier. Gaudreau was a zone exit and zone entry machine. They will miss that.
Overall Calgary did really well given their challenges, but they are a marginally worse team for it. And they lose a 1st round pick, apparently, in order to afford it.

Cole Schwindt too - mr.sir
I sort of ignored him because he's a bit of a non-factor. I think his maximum upside is as a bottom-6 guy, and his likely ceiling is physical 13th forward. |

Well I assume Price is going on LTIR so that clears 10 million from the cap. Dach can be signed after the first day of the season if they wanted to be not give him a camp. Can he attend camp and pre-season without a contract?
If they don't want to LTIR Price to make it all work there's a number of guys who may want out. Hoffman, Savard both come to mind. Maybe looking to win or not be apart of a tank/rebuild. |

Orioles need to lose. Jays need a series win but they just lost to the Orioles in a series. I do not have high hopes.
Not going to lie, I am kind of hoping they miss the playoffs so I can see what this management does/maybe gets fired. |

I won't saddle the line and pretend to be happy if they make the playoffs. I don't think the current management team has the balls to make the moves to put the team over the top.
Kikuchi being paid $16 million this year because he would sign for multiple years kind of tells you what we need to know about the management team.

not every move always works out. kikuchi not working out doesnt really tell you much of anything tbh
trades for Ray and Stripling have worked out well. |

In the entire league, the only guys still on MLB teams that have worse stats in at least 80 plate appearances are Pache, Clemens (yeah, Roger's kid), and Castro on the Astros.

I'm no expert either, but I bet that article was written by a Calgary writer trying to spin positive - one of those, "The hidden gem of this trade could be player 'x'". We've all seen that same article written 100 times, and I don't think it's ever been right.
I think a guy like Schwindt could fit in with what Sutter likes - grind and physicality - but he's a poor skater and doesn't have a lot of hockey IQ. He's 21 and apparently made steps last year in his skating, so there's lots of hope that he can get there, but Florida gave him a look (with Heponiemi and Thornton, so it wasn't actually "a chance", it was just a look) and it was pretty ugly. He'll need speed around him to be successful regardless of how much he manages to improve, I think.
