This is all so satisfying from a Leafs fans perspective. The Oiler fans are so high on they're overrated team. Thought they sent the Flames into a rebuild 🤣🤣 The Oilers true colors will shine this year. I have them battling for a WC. The Pacific can't be as horrendous as it was last year. |

What’s the deal with Montreal? They wanted Pelletier last year and Tre said no. They’re not taking a broken Monahan for nothing. I’m hearing maybe a 1st but don’t know if it’s true. |

7x7 ?!?! Well done Brad. This contract is a steal, even in the last few years, keep in mind, by the time this contract is half way through, the top salary projects to be around 13 mil and 7 mil for a 35 year old Kadri seems pretty relative. I was never a fan of Brad Treliving but ill tell you, his feet were put to the fire this offseason and he has somehow walked on air. Unbelievable job! - Papshady
This contract is good for the Flames right now but will be an albatross in about 2-3 years.
He will be 38 when this deal ends. 38.

I’m guessing it’s a bit front loaded.

If it's front loaded like that, who cares if we trade him and retain 50% for the last two-three years, we'd retain $3.5m iirc, but that just makes it easier for a trade partner to stomach in his last few years |

Great signing, but that term is brutal... but at the same time, I'm sure in 3-5 years when it's a gross overpayment some team may take on his contact to reach the cap floor. |

No one cares. 3-4 yrs is now the window. Much better than a 5 yr rebuild just to hope picks hit and then hope they don't walk. |
|
|
|
mark my words: he won't play out this entire contract
if need be, he'll get bought out in his last 2-3 years, with a mere $2.3m cap hit |

Flames are in a win now mode. Pushing Backlund down to 3c makes them stronger. Everyone crying for an upgrade at 2c just got their wish.
Flames now have a better D corp than last year and have upgraded their center position.
In 3-4 years we’ll let somebody else balance the cap.

Elias Lindholm's name should be on the cup, if this makes it happen I'll deal with it. |

2-3 year window for this team. We win a cup no one cares about year 4... who knows what the cap will be as well. |

Yep I like this deal. But some have speculated that there may be more to this Monahan deal than we think, possibly a 3rd team, because its taking way too long to confirm what the pick is going to be. There could be even more buzzing later on today once the actual trade is all confirmed. |

I don't understand. Marchand is going to be 37 when his deal is done. Kadri plays center and is making a little under 900k more for a deal signed years after Marchand.

Kadri and Marchand are pretty close. Kadri is a solid centerman. #2 with the ability to take top line if need be.

As an old-timer, Tre's wheeling and dealing over the last month has put me in mind of the late Punch Imlach.Year after year, Punch would pull off a series of deals involving mid career players that seem to always work.
I have to commend Tre for what he has done under tough circumstances. Punch would be proud.
ONE WORD OF CAUTION. Winning teams are built from the draft. You are getting a talented player with a good 10 or more years of PEAK performance as opposed to a player with 5 or less.
Again, I do commend Tre and I am looking forward to seeing the "new" Flames.
All I would ask, is, in general, the Flames decision makers be more diligent about protecting our draft picks.

Kadri is a solid 2nd line center that had a great year on an incredible team. Brad Marchand is a top 5-10 player in the NHL that does literally everything except take face offs. They are both annoying on the ice and that’s where the similarity ends for me.
Maybe I’ll be wrong and Kadri will continue with the same output. I just don’t think so |

The past few years, we lost a 4th oa that wanted a trade, a4th rounder walked for nothing, a 6th oa that wouldn’t sign with us,and a broken 6th oa. Tre played the hand he was dealt.
We still have 2nd rounders Dube, Kylington and Andersson, 3 1st rounders Pelletier, Zary, Coronato, 4th Ruzicka, 6th Phillips Mangiapani 6th rounder and more kids on the cusp.
I’m ok with what they’ve done. |

Gotta hand it to Trevling. He took a terrible situation and somehow actually made his team BETTER. Some of those contracts are going to be albatrosses in a few years or more, but I respect how the organization recognized it's window is now, and went all in as opposed to tearing it all down for a rebuild.
Looks like the BOA isn't dead after all |
