this is probably a record for one of the most complicated conditions ever. I think the strategy is that other teams don't understand clearly what's going on, so that the habs get free picks...

Long story short -
If CGY picks 20-32 in 2024, Habs can choose that pick.

If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2025, and both are out of the top 10, MTL gets the best
If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2025, and CGY is in the top 10, MTL gets FLA's.

If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2026, MTL gets CGY's 1st in 2025 unless it's 1st overall
If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2026 and CGY picks 1st in 2025, MTL gets the best of the 2 first picks in 2026.

Is what I understand. There's also 3rd and 4th rounders involved but who cares.

CGY will get FLA's 2025 1st pick, unless it wins a lottery, in which case it defaults to 2026.

So no one going to Calgary, Mtl is now 6.1 M over the cap, no biggie in the offseason but it has to be sorted out… kinda thinking Price may be back on LTIR before long…unless Monahan’s hip is not ready? So many questions, so few answers…

The little old lady in the NHL office that typed this just commited suicide. RIP !

EDIT: So in a nutshell, we're getting CGY's first pick sometime between now and the next ice age. Gotcha!

2024: Montreal can take CGY's pick if it's between 20 and 32

If not
2025: Similar to Dvorak trade - best pick unless CGY is top 10. If FLA is top 10, CGY gets their 2026 1st instead, in which case the pick is only 1st OA-protected

If CGY picks top 10 in 2025
2026: Best between FLA and CGY's 1st.

Is Guhle a lock to make the big club ???

If so perhaps shipping Matheson off to the Ducks for a couple of 2nd and a 3rd picks may be something to look at to clear cap space.. Ducks need a reliable LHD after Cam.

a first in 3 years, and the return for Monahan at the tdl, probably a 2nd if they retain 50%.
so a 1st and a 2nd for nothing.
difficult to complain.

Kent Hughes confirms that they will accomodate Monahan’s salary by putting Price on LTIR, the news on his knee are discouraging, doesnt see a way he gets back to play this season. No progress on the knee. Plasma injection did not help.
