Kadri isn't gonna sniff 80 points in Calgary. He had much better players and didn't have to be the star in Colorado. - jpl0219
I agree that last year was probably a career year for him, but he doesn't have to be the star in Calgary either (Huberdeau is). Calgary is a good team still, he will likely fill in as the second line center behind Lindholm, while getting top PP time, same as he did in Colorado. The difference is their defense likely won't be creating as many good offensive opportunities as in Colorado, but I still wouldn't be surprised to see him get about 70 points in 80 games.
Although if they decide to go with a top line of Huberdeau-Kadri-Lindholm, then I could certainly see him getting more points than last year's 87.
Effective use of cap space? You traded a first rounder along with monny (2 first rounders) for nothing. So you could sign a 32 year old 60 point player until he’s 40. Well done! - Leichs
They traded Monahan and a first for $6.5 million in cap space. Doesn't matter where Mony was drafted, 8 surgeries later, he's done. Kadri has always been a very valuable player. Yes, he's 32 and it might end up being a bad contract in a few years but right now, he's what the team most needs..a 2nd line center.
Lol. Kane will revert to old Kane now that he’s got a long term deal. If you actually believe he could have gotten more elsewhere and didn’t take it you’re the dumb one. Campbell sucks. D got worse. Oilers got lucky last year with a weak division and a team that imploded in round two. They’ll be lucky to win one round this year if they even make the playoffs. - TurdFergeson
Markstrom kinda imploded. Oilers also took advantage of basically the entire flames defence was hurt! If the flames get 3-4 good years out of kadri that’s fine he will probably retire or be on LTIR by then anyways
The Flames did well considering their best player walked for nothing and second best player demanded a trade. Ending up with Huberdeau and Weagar and now Kadri they are still a playoff team. I think many have Kadri significantly overrated. His numbers last year were ridiculously inflated. He’s a very good second line forward. Weagar is a really underrated pick up here
How are we the worst in the league? We locked up Connor and Drai for the primes of their career. We snagged Hyman and Campbell which will be huge. Kane coming in cheap for four years when he could have had millions more elsewhere. Meanwhile Tre signing these dinosaurs to 8 years and letting their best franchise player walk for free. You sure you aren’t a Flame fan because you have the stupidity of one. Also Holloway and Borogault > Cornato - Leichs
McD and Drai signed back when the cap was much lower. Draisaitl had proved nothing at that point and was a risk. But they are signed for 4 and 3 years respectively. When they go to re-sign, they will cost a ton more than they do now. All that money spent and they had one playoffs that they made it past two rounds. The Oiler's best D (that's not saying much) is making $9.5M.
As far as Holloway, I keep hearing how great he is. He did squat in the AHL and Bourgault is right up there with the awesome Lavoie. Another high rated Q player.
I know it's not easy being an NHL GM but I would've traded Johnny G if we didn't get a deal done. It's simple - you either KNOW you want to be here or we can't afford to see an asset walk away like that. Imagine if they got assets back, even less than what they got for Tkachuk.
So trading a player for a player and signing a player to replace a player is remarkable - Newgod77
I think the timing, circumstances involved (having to pivot and sign Kadri), moving SM, it's great. I wouldn't say remarkable like saving someone's life, but the return was for Matthew Tkachuk was massive.

Massive overpay for Huberdeau and too much term for Kadri. They might make some noise for a couple of years until the cap goes up so it might work out.
Nurse is 27 years old and our best dman. Kadri is 32. Give your head a shake. We are paying for prime years. Y’all are paying a Kadri to grow old and retire. - Leichs
Your best D-man, jesus, the Oil are truly screwed!
