Lou is happy with the team the way it is, it appears VAN is as well. - VanHockeyGuy
I think in both cases it's more that the moves the teams want to make require a lot more cap space/flexibility than they currently have |

Who is the 100 point player? - Marwood
Your war on 99 vs 100 points is really funny to me |

Maybe a MTA can help with the flat cap issues?

Yeah, let's sign the 30 year old forward who never got more than 60-75 and who had one good season to a 7-8 year deal for 8mil+ and have no money to sign several other players who are due raises as well because we're that close to contending for the Cup - DariusKnight
I'm sticking with it's better to let him walk for nothing than sign him to a bad deal.

Nah, we're going to win the Cup in 2-3 years so let's just go all-in and sign him until 2031 for 9 mil... what could go wrong, I mean I'm sure we can convince Bo to sign for for peanuts on the dollar and Petey the same next year because hey, Bruce Boudreau! |

Naw, go for 11 man, (frank) a 50 point aging star is worth at least that, 50 this season 32 next, maybe 12 in the 3rd year, then he can be traded for Dobson when he busts out after 3 years. |

Van fans:
We need to trade our best 100 point player for short-term gain.. and prospects and picks in which we will have no clue how they turn out.
Now!!!!
- LordHumungous
Not that I think any canuck management could juggle this many balls in the air at once, but I actually thought it made sense to trade miller for the prospects/picks and sign kadri. End up with free assets, not much of a downgrade and probably a PR win as well with Van likely having one of the largest muslim fan bases. Kadri perhaps one of the few that might entertain Van as a FA destination as well having just won the cup and winning near-term maybe not as important.
Alas, Tree beat us to it and used the free asset to turn his lemon situation into some damn fine lemonade!

Just have to wait for all the teams to move their tradable assets away and others to sign all their cap away to get this bidding war for Miller going... Patience Nucker.... patience. |

Lou Lamoriello says the #Isles would have had to give up too much to pull off the "hockey trades" he spoke about.
"I'm really excited about the team we have going into the season right now. I feel very good. If we could've gotten better, we would've done that. - VanHockeyGuy
I was saying this more or less yesterday and a week ago. Lu wants to improve the team. Miller for Dobson(plus plus if signed someone suggested) doesn't improve the team. Improves the scoring but creates other problems. Dobson is more important to the team long term. Dumb move if it were ever to happen which I've doubted all along. |

Narrative: "Isles want to win now, Loui is old"
Also Narrative: "Maybe we can get Dobson, because it totally makes sense for a team who wants to win to trade the 22 year old who was their best dman last season" - Nucker101
The logic(or lack of) is mind boggling in here....

This is becoming more and more likely. The team will hold their own *this season. It will be determined that the real value is holding onto him for the season and playoffs and using the cap space for Petey after he walks. The best return they were faced with will be the narrative. They are not going to scrap their season 3/4 of the way to a playoff appearance for a pick in the 20's at the TDL... "it's not worth it" will be the statement.

Yup, at this point Iād prefer they keep Miller, chase the playoffs and let him walk. A late first and a fringe prospect doesnāt move the needle enough. Rather enjoy some good hockey |

lol I just want to see what we have here under a full season of Boudreau. Not really big on an 8 year deal either and if he walks for nothing who cares. Just helps the cap. If we move him now and get very little with no idea how picks/prospects will work out, we are conceding the season yet again and looking at another 5 years of whining around what we currently have. If this club wants to compete vs EDM and CGY next year he'd better be here. Pretty sure MNGT wants to see what we have under a full season of Boudreau and they will assess from there. Why that is so hard for folks to grasp is - LordHumungous
If they moved him at TDL or draft, they would have had the summer as their best opportunity to iron out the roster for this and future seasons... a good start. Now they are in a completely different situation and painted themselves into a corner. Now it's a much lesser return or get the best out of this season and let him walk for reasons I stated above.
There is still chances they come out of it with a good trade but in reality, that likelihood has greatly narrowed and continues to do so...

totally agree ... the best offers have come and gone. now it's a TDL rental return. might as well keep him, finish middle of the pack, draft a sub-par prospect ... as is tradition
