Carolina is going to be in the mix for the east. No doubt. - MJL
What were they last year? Same spot, they’ll come up short again imo |

Carolina is getting better every season. Most good teams on the rise do. |

Speaking of a guy getting a ton of praise. I don’t think the moves Carolina made put them over the top, they’re stuck in the same place. Unless guys like Aho and Svechnikov can raise their games in the playoffs they are going nowhere again. And Patches already out long term. - ClaudeFather
They have some question marks. Losing Trochek and Nino hurts. 2nd line center is unclear. Looks like KK, Necus and now Stastny competing for it. If Jarvis keeps developing and Gardiner is sound, they should be alright. If Patches comes back healthy in the 2nd half they should be sound. They need to continue to get good goaltending.

Goaltending certainly hurt but they couldn’t put away the rangers time after time. Didn’t they not win a road game? Their stars came up very short. I don’t think they have a guy that takes them to the next level. Aho and Svech both were disappointing in the playoffs. They’re a really good team, I just don’t think they solved anything this off-season. Like you said, still some question marks. |

I question bringing in Brent Burns. I don’t think he was a Necessary move for the Canes. |

Stastny isn't going to sign for 1.5M to play for a bottom feeder like the Flyers. - MJL
Shhh don't ruin my ruffling of feathers in here 😉
I know there ia No way in hell would he take a pay cut to play here |

To me Carolina is another good team but not a team to contend for the cup.
They are a piece or two away (like feltcher thinks we are) but they have some good pieces to build around.
I'm with you though, to me they are not a cup team yet |

He replaces Tony D and he’s still good on the PP. But yeah, why bring in Bear, Tony, and Burns? Slavin had/has to carry all three. Bring in a guy who can hold his own defensively. Give up some offense and Slavin may be able to bring some more offense.

Yeah but that doesn’t seem kinda dumb? Burns is ten years older than DeAngelo. You could argue DeAngelo’s career is still beginning and Burns’ career could be around the corner from ending. |

Where will the goals come from? They had trouble scoring already. Trochek and Neiterreiter gone and Pacioretty was being counted on to pick up some of that.

I don’t know how to answer this. I don’t like Burns’ as a player and I don’t think I’d be happy if the Flyers traded for an 8 million dollar per, 37 year old Brent Burns no matter how good or bad we’re expected to be. |

The Canes were a top 10 scoring team in the regular season. Just outside the top 10 in the playoffs. As young players grow and develop, they will get even better offensively.

The Canes averaged 2.64 GPG in the playoffs. Ten of the other 15 playoff teams had a higher GPG. They had much trouble scoring against the Rangers. They lack an elite goal scorer that most Cup teams have. They’re a really good team but can’t win a Cup with their current roster imo.

Aho is a pretty good goal scorer as is Svechnikov. The latter struggled offensively in the playoffs but that's part of a young players development. Pacioretty is also a pretty good goal scorer. The Rangers had an all world goaltender. They have some pretty good young players. I wouldn't put them with Colorado or a healthy TB but they're right there otherwise. |

Don't forget the premise offered by one of the resident prognosticators. This is about Ellis not wanting to play for the Flyers. He's just trying to force a trade.

Well there isn't anyone playing right now. We'll see if Ellis can play. I doubt it. |

Burns improves the Hurricanes D. Upgrade over Tony D. San Jose retained money as well.

ND - 1.7m
Stastny- .1.5m
Way to go, fleece me feltcher!
My brave prediction ... chuck is the first GM to get fired this season - Bob Habib
Stastny will be turning 37 this season and before last season hasn't had a 20+ goals since 2013. He is also injury prone and has only 3 season where he played 75 plus games. Why would I want an old guy possibly taking a spot of a young guy?
