I'm not downplaying your point about players getting better with experience. However there could be other contributing factors. Being traded could be a wake up call and result in a better effort. New coaches or a new system could also help a young player get better.

100%. Change of scenery. Especially with the last regime. I can comfortably say they weren’t getting the most out of the players.

Would you give up next years first + anyone besides Raty, + something else for Patrick Kane? I think another team pays more but I would consider it…

I'd give up a 3rd rounder next year to ensure he goes to EDM and not the Rangers or Leafs

I think he winds up on the rangers unfortunately. They have the assets and they’ll find a way to make it work salary wise. With that said would you trade for him if it were an option? If yes what would you be willing to give up?

Probably not, unless the something else was Josh Bailey, and Chicago retained salary. Otherwise, Kane's cap hit of $10.5 MM would be problematic.

Kane(45G-35A-80)McDavid(40G-80A-120)-Kane(35G-75A-110)

That would be absolutely frightening to behold.

They would have to take him or Beau while retaining some salary. They’re not retaining 50% unless the payback is enormous. As it is the return will be pretty big. If the rangers truly believe they’re contenders, which I think they do, they’ll make it happen. I say he’s a Ranger and I think it may make them one of if not the biggest threat in the east.

Kane's cap hit is $10.5 mill but he is only making around 6 or 7. The retaining salary might not be as big an issue as most think... if they keep moving guys they could end up under the cap floor.

Theres one year left and depending on when they trade him his salary will reflect it at that time so if it’s around the time of TDL or even Nov/Dec it won’t be as much. With that said if the rangers manage to move a few million and offer their first, kravstov, and some other B level prospect they have him. Kane wants to go there and it seems the rangers want him. That’s gonna suck.

Yeah Okposo was a fairly mediocre player save for one season. He was bad in Buffalo got sick/injured and was worse. Wasn’t a case of anyone giving up on him more a case of overvaluing a player by the fanbase imo. Dehaan a lot expected to be some offensive defenseman other then that I don’t remember anyone souring on him really. I certainly didn’t and you could include brock in that I’ve always been a fan. Some on here were a little dissatisfied with him a couple of seasons that’s about it. He’s not a game breaker but he’s a good player always has been imo.

DeHaan developed into a turn over machine and when Philly gave him $4 mil a year or something like that a few years back nobody here was crying about it. It was basically good riddance.

DeHaan never played for Philly. Are you confusing DeHaan with Andrew MacDonald?

My recollection is that AMac was halfway decent in the beginning when he played on the 3rd pairing. When that great judge of talent, Jack Capuano, moved him up to the first pairing, he was exposed. One of Snow's better moves was trading him to Philly at the trade deadline for picks.

Remember all the Flyer fans saying we were just bitter that we lost him? A few of them came back to say they were wrong. But as Crapuano said, Amac played a heavy game.

Yeah, a steal by Snow.

When Philly re-upped him for a big payday, they were stuck with him, and couldn't unload him. They even tried sending him to the ECHL, I recall, hoping he would quit. But he wasn't quitting and losing the millions Philly was paying him.

Never a fan. Capuano was enamored with the guy. Consistently had the worst turnovers at the absolute worst time. I thought he sucked.

100%. Absolutely hysterical. In fact I remember you and I laughing our asses off at them. One of them came on our thread at the end of the season to admit we were right.

Edit; I just realized I repeated exactly what you said. I’m shot

I’ve mentioned this before, but I spent a couple hours with Cappie at my cigar shop that I got to in Saratoga. I can’t remember what year but just after we were eliminated from the playoffs. His buddy from beantown had a horse running at the spa. My best friend is a huge Bs fan, had a Bs shirt on and he got a kick out of that. I was asking him why Johnny B wasn’t on the PP with his cannon shot among other things and he showed me an email he sent to Snow. The email showed points per defenseman and at the time he was a big proponent of having dman produce. He went on to show the stats of teams that had defensive production and all the top teams had high influence of production by dmen. I have to say I wasn’t a fan of the results at the time but he was a solid dude.

I have a similar story. Met him at an islander event when he was still the sound tigers coach. I asked him which player in Bridgeport would be the next impactful player to come up and become a regular. He then went on to gush about Andrew Macdonald for the next twenty minutes. He absolutely loved the guy. Maybe not the best coach but I agree he’s a really nice guy.
