Stacked how? With prospects who have a ton of question marks? They have been "stacked" for years with no results. - furio16
That's not true. This season they may not have really high end prospects, but they do have a lot of good depth which is something that can be bought with money at the AHL level where there's no salary cap.
Their projected lineup looks something like
Lycksell-O'Reilly-Foerster
Fitzgerald-Laczynski-Allison*
Desnoyers-Marody-Sandin
J Cates-Brooks Hodgson*
Kile-Wisdom-Gerard
Bellerive
Zamula-Belpedio
Connauton-Attard
Ginning-Wylie
Zech-Hogberg*
McFadden-Millman
Ersson
Groesnick

Compare to the Rangers:
1. Lafrenière
2. Miller
3. Kakko
4. Schneider
5. Lundkvist
6. Othmann
7. Jones
8. Kravtsov
9. Cuylle
10. Robertson
11. McConnell-Barker
12. Sýkora
13. Berard
14. Korczak
15. Garand - furio16
They certainly do have a bigger pool of viable prospects.
Although Pronman's dropped them from #1, to #4, now down to #9, mostly due to Kakko and Laf still being pretty far away from their ceilings.

Farabee has been a pro for 3 seasons. Shouldn't be on any prospect list IMO.

It's more of a top players 22 and under list:
Player eligibility is determined by age. A player is eligible if they are 22 years old or younger as of Sept. 15, 2022. This encompasses almost every prospect selected between the 2018 and 2022 NHL drafts. This is used to include a team’s top prospects, without aggressively graduating players who have a lot of prime development years ahead of them, even if they are already in the NHL.
And Farabee's not exactly a finished product, even if he's been in the league for a minute. |

It’s amusing to see a coach be made the face of a franchise.
Also amusing how much value they place on conditioning, effort, and culture over talent.
The fools who are so desperately looking forward to seeing a bunch of middle 6 players be made “uncomfortable” are part of the problem.
There are organizations in the league that don’t actively get excited about making life for their own players hell. Teams that have managed to find success. You’d think the league was pounding the door down to hire Torts.
Embarrassing. - FlyerFan3260
Back in the 90’s the pathetic Sixers had an ad campaign for Doug Moe, making the coach the face and selling point. Now, 30 years later, they Flyers are following suit. As much as I like Coots, Hart and Provy, let’s face it, no one is paying skyrocket high ticket prices, $40 for parking, $15 per beer, blah blah blah to come watch those players. There is nothing exciting about this team as of now. There is no main attraction except for the coach. Couple that with the fact that confidence is extremely low in this team and there ya have it… market the coach.

No one is also going to pay those prices to see a coach. Torts is not and will not put any asses in those seats.
Should have went after Eichel hard when he was available. They have zero drawing power players. None on the horizon.

He’s going to become an embarrassment in a short time. Already he’s out there taking a bullet for Fletcher, calling out those who have concerns with the management team.
They stepped away from Gritty, and are touting Torts to be some sort of Moses. It’s pathetic.
His mind games, and abrasive style have been deemed as BS by every other current NHL team. The Flyers know better?
I’ll just say this. If I was a player that had a chance to play for a low talented team, having my life be made into hell by a moron stuck in the past. I’d be thrilled. Whoever doesn’t “buy in” will have gained respect from me. |

Torts is 64 years old and guaranteed what 16 million from the Flyers? He ain't got a care in the word.

Think the national media won’t be thrilled for his interactions, or comments to the beats?
This is going to be a team with little talent, praying to at least be respectable. The rest of this league already laughs at the current Flyers.
What moron thinks that the sideshow that is Torts won’t somehow make that worse? The same idiots that ignore league trends but continue to maintain that the Flyers know best?
All he is spouting this off season is how hard camp will be, for players to prepare for difficulty, be challenged like they have never been before, and at times a rocky road with him.
He’s a moron. |

That's just what coaches do. Try and build comradery and an us versus them mentality. Letting the players know he has their back to build up some trust. Pretty standard stuff.

There is a level of motivation that comes from that.
I’m curious how motivated they will feel in a few months time of his iron fist. The Flyers fail to ignore the reality that the rest of the league does not operate like Torts. If I was a young player I would want nothing to do with this guy, and his mental experiments.
I look forward to the fallacy that he is some kind of miracle worker to be exposed.
I will maintain young player development is a problem that will very much continue with him at the helm. It’s a new era, and everything I continue to hear from this man tells me he doesn’t have a clue what year it is. Players are not the same, and not accepting that as a reality is stupidity. |

I’d much prefer a guy like MSL considering the Flyers position, and the fact that it’s 2022.
John is going to milk this for all it’s worth. I’m sure of that. Will that be from the young players though? Somehow I doubt it. |

I take a diff approach knowing he is 64 I don't think he will milk anything. He will do what he does and what ever happens happens as he has guaranteed money coming his way.
This is his last coaching job so what will he do with it??????? Will he do it his way only and if no one likes it then fire me?
Preferring a MSL is fine and agree. That is diff than Torts saying those things.

Appreciate the different take.
Find myself questioning more, and more if his style is indeed what this team needed. I do not think he is a good development coach for young players, more specifically on a team that needs to milk as much dynamic offensive skill out of its youngsters as possible.
After Hakstol, and Vigneault/Therrien this is not a group to me that needed a hardass to the level that he is. Especially not for a team that depends so strongly on its young players taking the next steps in offensive production. Tried to have an open mind with him, but the constant rah-rah before the season has even begun to basically tell these guys to be ready for hell, or be off the team is souring me quickly.
We shall see. |

My own opinion is this team needed to cut bait with pretty much all the players. As team they just are not good. They will never accomplish anything together. To many dogs in the group as a team.
Another coach same players less a few. I expect the same results. A non playoff no future team.
Maybe let Torts lay the foundation then a good up and coming coach takes over in a few years. Wish he had hired a nice young assistant.
Torts took the money and I do not blame him. He clearly knows this team is not good seeing them all year. This is not a quick turn around.

Good luck to any of the prospects on that Phantoms roster. Lappy's comments again solidify that he is not the guy for the job. This team should not be in the business of developing a pipeline of 3rd and 4th line bubble players....At this rate, the Phantoms are going to be chalk full of AHL 3rd/4th liners, let alone nhl talent. |

As some have put out there, Torts might be a decent finisher to propel an underachieving team to some sort of contention. But he might be a great choice if the team were, as Furio16 suggests, to just cut bait, start over, and let Tort lay the groundwork for a bunch of potentially promising young players. I read somewhere that I think Hartnell said he wished he had had Torts as his coach when he was a rookie. But this mess, I mean this team (Fletcher and Scott) can’t decide if they’re gonna sh@t or get off the pot.
