It's a fair point Pat but we know Allen ain't our goaltender of the future.

Let's say we can get a 2nd rounder or better for Allen and then we sign a veteran goaltender to next year.

Vet goalie + 2nd round pick or Jake Allen?

- Scabeh

no but I do see him as an interesting building block to get to that future. the goalie market kinda sucks right now, Allen is among the top tier of backup goalies around the league, chances are this other veteran goalie you'll be replacing him with won't be as reliable.

Well he's a reliable goaltender on a cheap contract. There's value in that

I'm sure Vegas would be quite happy to add him right now.

- Scabeh

Why?? Thompson is way better.

options are

If vegas really wants him now, they better make an offer that HuGo can't refuse. I don't see that happening.

Trade him by the TDL, if he is having a decent season and stays healthy, might be able to get a close to a 2nd round pick. Is it worth it, not sure but if the offers are for a 2nd round pick...I do it.

Or extend him sooner than later not to lose him next summer.

- Symba007

yeah, personally I find Allen is more useful currently to the habs than another 2nd round pick.

yes, with all those 20 NHL games Thompson has under his belt, it's undeniable, no need to look further, case closed.

again, why not just keep Allen if you can lol. it's how I see it anyway.
- Pat1993

He's a UFA next summer. That's the point you keep missing, I guess.

pretty sure I said keep Allen if you can, implying that they re-sign him, which is the point you seem to be missing lol

If they can extend him beofre the TDL, keep him. If not, trade him.

Assets management.

of course, I feel like he might want to stay if Hughes is interested in keeping him around and has a talk with him about the team's intentions, but you can't force him to stay if he really doesn't want to lol

I suspect maybe 70%. Missing 10-15 games a year, too.

But that is just a guess.

If they want a cheap vet as a backup there are UFAs available that will be very cheap.

I think he will still be good but not great. We’ll see. I still hate the trade. It may go down as the trade that closed their window.

Well the emoji conveys what I thought of his idea. If I came out and said it was (frank)ing stupid then he’d whine to the mods.

if you're looking for cheap options, sure, but the talent might not be there. there aren't that many good reliable goalies going around.

of course, everyone else is the problem, not you. you obviously have no issues whatsoever having a normal conversation in these threads without being a giant douche.
