The issue last year was Allen ended up playing too many games in a row... then got injured as a result. Then Monty ended up playing too many games in a row, cause we had no one else. Same poop happened.
If they can split that time, use goaltenders properly, then I think they can provide league average goaltending... and on most night, not be the reason the Habs lose. - Mashadar
they should split the net 50-50, win or lose. Allen plays one, Montembeaut plays one.. pas de chicane. |

Did you guys see that story about Totorella walking into the Lightning dressing room and trying to fight Lecavalier? - BINGO!
yeah, apparently he wasn't planning on actually fighting him, but it was part of certain tactics he used as coach to get his players going or some poop..?

And hope Allen stays healthy so we can trade him during the year.

After he played pretty much the whole season in the AHL, sure, he can finish the season with Samuel.

same with Drouin, Dandonov, Byron, Armia and Hoffman.
Hoffman will have one year left at the TDL on his deal, retain a % and trade him then, 1 year impact only. Drouin, Dandonov and Byron are all UFA next summer. Armia is signed until the summer of 2025 with a cap hit of 3.4M. |

yeah, I've never been sold on this idea of trading Allen at this point, a rotation between him and Primeau would make a lot more sense imho, instead of having 2 young unexperienced goalies.

let Primeau excel at the AHL level until the TDL, up to Montambeault to carry the load with Allen until then. Bring an experienced NHL starter next summer. |

a Primeau/Montembeault tandem sounds horrible. I just don't get the whole trading Allen thing, it isn't like the return would necessarily be out of this world either... oh well lol |

Well he's a reliable goaltender on a cheap contract. There's value in that
I'm sure Vegas would be quite happy to add him right now.

I agree.
The return would be minimal and Allen is on a team friendly contract.
So unless a team is so desperate they are throwing a 1st round pick to the Habs, I am not sure he gets traded.

I don't expect a huge return either, but he will be a UFA next summer. He may not even want to be here anymore.
And at some point, Primeau will get a shot at the NHL.
If they need another vet to replace Allen, I'm pretty sure they can find one next summer. |

he is UFA next summer, who says he is not coming back. I say trade him at the TDL, if he is available next summer and they can agree on a contract, why not. |

so what if Allen is UFA, he seems to be happy as a hab, they could easily re-sign him.
anyway I'm tired of the Allen debate lol, I wouldn't trade him, but I trust the new management team will be taking the right decisions for the team. |

It's a fair point Pat but we know Allen ain't our goaltender of the future.
Let's say we can get a 2nd rounder or better for Allen and then we sign a veteran goaltender to next year.
Vet goalie + 2nd round pick or Jake Allen?

options are
If vegas really wants him now, they better make an offer that HuGo can't refuse. I don't see that happening.
Trade him by the TDL, if he is having a decent season and stays healthy, might be able to get a close to a 2nd round pick. Is it worth it, not sure but if the offers are for a 2nd round pick...I do it.
Or extend him sooner than later not to lose him next summer. |
