He has until the trade deadline to get his crap together. We’re talking staying healthy and playing at something like a .75 .ppg clip. - BeadyEyedDouche
I listened to Granato earlier this week. Look for Mittelstadt to be a winger to start the year |

This does not compute. According to some, it must be attributable to the cleaning lady writing notes on the white board. Anybody but Adams. - IonSabres
I find it really strange that Ventura is getting credit for the tage signing.
Some posters just want to pretend KA isnt doing his job.
Clearly signing timber to 50 million involves KA , front and center. |

To your point, Adams made the decision to hire him on, and more importantly give him a strong voice in the room.
Interesting how some try to discredit Adam's for exactly what he should be doing...any good manager knows to hire hire people smarter/with more expertise than you and give them the room necessary, then rely o their expert opinion. I laugh at those trying to undercut him for it. - IonSabres
Excellent post uncle ion.

I really haven't seen undercutting of KA.
More so, he still has a lot to prove to be considered a good GM. |

KA's put together a couple excellent drafts
And traded away eichel / sambo and risto for excellent returns
Also watching the Sabres is fun again.
You know, the winning part last season when we were picked to come in last place
Also hired competent people to help ....

I think he’ll start to shine more. Just curious to see what Maurice will do behind the bench, mostly.
Lundell didn’t seem fazed by anything last season. He looks like one of those players that just always seems to be in the right place as plays unfold. He was even on the pk pretty quickly. Showed some really skilled offensive flashes, too. Maybe he tired out towards end of year, but I think he was playing through some minor injury. |

The job of a GM is one that always has important business ahead. It is important to look in the rear view mirror to see if he has shown signs of "having it" when gauging confidence for the future.
I have stated this in the past and believe it strongly....Adams having zero front office experience himself, coupled with 80% of the support staff having been fired , and having to rely on a snakeoil salesman in Krueger ... he had basically very little to nothing to lean on when learning on the job the first year. I therefore give him a pass that year and chalk it up to learning on the fly. Others disagree, expressing a bravado stance of "just get it done" mentality thrown around by many.
Take year 1 out, and he has done pretty, pretty good for himself being dealt a poop hand. He has hired good people, set the course for the franchise with a focus on long term stability at the expense of win now at all costs mentality that GMTM implemented. I suspect he will meet the future challenges with sound judgement and continue successfully on the path he has chosen.
That path is in direct conflict with a tired, worn out fan base that has heard many excuses before. I get their low vote of confidence in the organization as a whole. But, when sitting back and considering the crap he has had to navigate through the last 3 years ... well, that is light at the end of the tunnel, not a speeding out of control train.
The problem is not Adams, rather a burned out fanbase that refuses to discern the stark difference in the FO now, versus those of the past who poop on the org for 8 years running...complemented by an arrogant and ignorant Owner Team...thank fully Adam's has their trust and apparently are much more hands off...finally. |

Why are Portillo’s words different? - washedup20
Several reporters have written about it...here's one
Johnson, a left-shot defenseman, told reporters following a development camp practice Wednesday in LECOM Harborcenter that he's leaning toward returning to the University of Minnesota for his senior year.
Portillo, a 6-foot-6 goalie, decided in April that he's spending another season at the University of Michigan, where he's active in Ross School of Business. Both can become unrestricted free agents if unsigned next summer, putting Adams in the precarious spot of having to decide what to do with their NHL rights.
Johnson, though, sounds more likely to put pen to paper than Portillo, who would draw plenty of interest from other teams with another successful season at Michigan.
"Obviously, there’s a lot of factors that go into it," said Johnson, 20. "Honestly, I think there’s benefits to both. Buffalo’s a great organization, and right now, I’m really just evaluating the camp and evaluating just the staff and just taking some time, too. It’s a really tough decision for me, so I want to make sure I’m doing it with confidence." "I love the organization," Johnson said. "It doesn’t close the door. Yeah, just have to see what the future holds."
It doesn't require reading tea leaves to see that the Sabres are planning for Portillo to sign elsewhere. Last week, they used a second-round draft pick on goalie Topias Leinonen. When asked about the long-term plan in goal the past few months, Adams mentioned Levi and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen while leaving Portillo out of his answers to reporters. |
