Is it really a lot? I think its fair. Yeah he only had a break out season last year, but all the Tools are there. Just his shot alone will score him 10-20 on one timers. I will admit before last year I was not sold but Tallness made me a believer. And kudos to Meatballs for sticking with him at center.
I will say right now Tage goes 40+48 88 pts, More then Eichel ever scored in a Sabres uni and I predict he out scores him next year too. - hehateme
I would take 25 and 25 as long as the whole team keeps growing. Even if he averages 50pts a season this is a win.
I saw somewhere on Twitter that he is the 29th highest paid center and that he essentially got 2nd line center money. - Slump Buster
Yeah, there guys scoring 30-35pts a year making 5m. And this is also a wake up to the NHL that the Sabres are growing as a team and players might actually want to come here because they are finally starting to commit.
Think you guys are sleeping on tall man timber. Think we have our joe thorton light but tage can actually score goals. Theres noone else in the league that has his tools with his skill set.
Yea after watching him the first few years as a sabre i get the hesitation but theres no way last season was a fluke. Dude played really solid hockey that i would not consider just getting lucky bounces.
At worst a high end 2nd line center if one of these young kids can take the 1st line center duties from him in a few years. Think tage hits 30g40a this year barring injury.

I think we need to slow down on that.
It showed this offseason the players who had ways to block coming here did so and still think very poorly of Buffalo.

$2 million too much and 2 years too long.
Just a little too much risk all around for a guy who's about to be 25 and had one bizarre monster season.
Maybe he IS a 30 goal scorer and that's a good contract for him! But I wouldn't have put that big of a bet on that if it were me. Especially when you had time to wait and see this season.

Completely agree 2 mil too much and 2 years too long.
He definitely had more than an average amount of puck luck last season. I could understand his even strength scoring dropping but the guy scored 10 pp goals on 100 shots. It’s likely he will get more ppg’s next year with an increase in pp shots.

1 year does not a good player make.
They flubbed the Reinhart situation and jumped the gun on Tage because of it.
I’d have rather seen him get a deal at 8x8 in January because he is lighting it up, than this now just because I’m afraid he is a flash in a pan.
I hope he turns into a Malkin-lite, and a lot of us wrote him off before last year, but I’m still not sure about the timing of this deal. - BeadyEyedDouche
Agreed.
The easy part is over for Kevin and Co.
Its building it back up.
His first movement and that carries a ton of Risk.
They now have a guy who we dont really know what he is, making over 7 Mil a year.
There is 0 Risk for Tage and 100% Risk for the team.
This is a gross assumption. You literally can’t know this unless you know him personally. - BeadyEyedDouche
It is common cents.
Tage would've fired his agent if he brought that deal to him like it was a good idea he should sign it.
The play for Tage was to bet on himself having another excellent season, then sign a shorter term, especially with the large leverage he would have contractually, and with the cap expected to leap forward in the next couple of seasons.
He signed now because it was a fair deal.
The gross assumption is you thinking there was even a prayer of Tage signing the deal you preferred.

After a year where a guy scored 38 goals? This aint 2008 - ZiggyBuff
And prior to that he had just 18 goals in 145 NHL games. You kind of have to take in the full picture.
OR
You wait and see what he is THIS season, and sign accordingly instead of negotiating the extension now when his value might be at its highest. The guy might never hit 30 goals again. It's a big, unnecessary gamble.

The bold is not true.
Tage has another season like last, or even better, and he left gobs of money on the table by signing now, especially with the cap expected to rise by quite a bit in the coming years.

Again, the guy had THIRTY FIVE points in 145 NHL games prior to last season. He'll be 25 in October. The odds of him continuing to score at this kind of level are very slim.
