They were both born in 1997. Aho in July, TT in October.

Thompson had a great year but it's a litttttle early to be comparing him to a guy the same age but with 4 point-per-game seasons under his belt already, no?

Why do you think I mentioned why TT has more upside right now, and the fact he earns less than Aho? It wasn't a flat-out "lookie at our version of the great Aho" comparison, but to show TT could/should grow into his role and be a comparable player at a lower price tag. With the team due for improvement and TT entering only his second year at the position, I'd be surprised if him and Ahole weren't close this year (again) and that would be a huge win for our GM.

that's basically what I'm saying too. I think it's too much for too long because of the risk involved. Not to take anything away from Thompson himself, I just wouldn't have made this bet.

It’s certainly paying him near the top of the market. I was hoping we would get some deals in the future, especially when we will potentially have many guys to sign due to good performance 🤞🏻. A mill or two extra on each long term guy adds up quick. Don’t think this is any bargain for us.

Good thing about this as I mentioned is we won’t be paying him into his mid 30s like skinner, Okposo, moulson etc. same with Dahlin. When we hopefully sign him long term it will be only until he’s 32-33. Signing guys to term 100% in their prime and not bad years is a great long term strategy

Remember when we gave Jack Eichel 10mil a year after a 56 and 57 point season…? The outrage!!

Again, the guy had THIRTY FIVE points in 145 NHL games prior to last season. He'll be 25 in October. The odds of him continuing to score at this kind of level are very slim.

Thomas just had a 77pt season and signed for 8.1m
In 2yrs with the way contracts are going this will be a good deal. Funny even when that contract kicks in the Sabres will still be almost 20m under the Cap floor.
