Sabres had to show that they are turning a corner with Contracts. They played kick the can for to long, this contract also shows the young core that the Sabres will commit to players
- Buff36

Exactly. It shows the youngsters you do whats asked and work your tail off you will get rewarded.

Also think this was smart to get done before Dahlin. Doll head will most likely get 9mil. He might try to ask for more to stay in buffalo. So now you got a top number on the team to work off of. Give him 9mil first and now tage is gonna think he worth at least 8mil for 38 goals.

So now you sorda have a bench mark on the team of what will get you 7mil a year for the youngsters. Skinner put up those numbers 3-4 years ago and got 9mil.

Where are you going here? I advocated approaching Tage this summer a long time ago. Good move by Ventura. It's a risk, but it's calculated.

Josh Norris is also nearly two years younger and had as many points in 56 games in 20-21 as Thompson had in his ENTIRE CAREER leading up to last season.
- BINGO!

Tage’s micro stats are better than Norris’.

He drives offence quite well. If he sustains that even if the shooting percentage drifts back to average you are looking at a player with a 25 goal floor.

Not to mention the deal doesn’t kick in till next offseason, and with the way contracts are going he may not even be a top 30 paid Centre in the league by the time he actually plays on the deal.

It’s 2C money pretty soon.

It's odd that they aren't showing the actual entire jersey. There has to be a prototype by now.

Or maybe Tage Thompson will wear one in his contract press conference.

A bunch of the NFL teams with new helmets did teases like that, too.

I mean I like bingo and all, but don't spend all morning bagging on tage when you have problems with your cap for a guy that scored 12 goals for a career high and cost you 39 mil long term and a 1st and a 3rd rd pick
- homiedclown

Other teams making mistakes does not make this mistake any different. Has nothing to do with what team signed the deal dude.

I push to bridge almost everyone off their ELC, and make a real decision after. That's what they did here. My issue with Sam was his 1 year deal. That was criminal and wasn't in play for Tage.

You blame Ralph for KA's first year. I credit Ventura for any positive that happens now. We both see KA in a similar light.

I don't know how it can be called a mistake yet. Risk, sure. Deal doesn't even kick in for another year. As Pegula pointed out, he won't even be a top 32 paid center when the deal actually kicks in most likely. It's market 2C money with a rising cap.

So how about Dahlin for the same contract as tallness. Who says no?
- Slump Buster

Completely different. Dahlin at 7x7 is a steal.

I would tend to agree, although one could make an argument that at this point Tage's ceiling might be higher than Dahlin's.

I disagree completely.

Tage Ceiling, IMO is just above where he is now.

Dahlins ceiling is not even in view, again IMO.

Absolutely not.

We're only just starting to see Dahlin's true potential last season.

That updated Goathead logo looks sharp. I wish they would wear the white jersey with the black shoulder yokes but this should look good regardless.

It's assumed that everything the Sabres do is a mistake because they've sucked for 389 years, but there's a long way to go before this is called a mistake.

If he's a 55-60 point 2C over the life of the deal, it'll look really good by 2025.

And prior to that he had just 18 goals in 145 NHL games. You kind of have to take in the full picture.

OR

You wait and see what he is THIS season, and sign accordingly instead of negotiating the extension now when his value might be at its highest. The guy might never hit 30 goals again. It's a big, unnecessary gamble.

Soooo, Dahlin can take 5 years to show his true potential and hes worth 9mil according to some here but Tage just above 7 after showing his true potential is a hazard....

Can't make this stuff up

I don't get it either. Tage at 7 is going to be a steal... just the one timer bombs on the PP are going to get him 10-15 goals a year.

He might literally have the hardest one timer shot I have ever seen and he is accurate with it.
