overpaying for hayes = haphazard

overpaying for braun via trade = haphazard

bringing up Hart early in 18/19 due to injuries = haphazard

hiring a name instead of doing due diligence to match a coaching philosophy to the talent and type of players on the roster = haphazard

- corduroy

How was Braun an overpay? That is one of the rare moves that has been just fine.

Chuck is a very lazy GM to me. Look at his coaches at the NHL and AHL level.

yeah that was kind of my point. People are pointing out that the Flyers are over the cap. The roster has not been set yet. Players will be start on IR and players will be sent to the Phantoms. The cap right not is pointless to bring up.

Even Farabee will start on the IR.

People just need something to complain about to make themselves feel good

- WhiskeyMan

That is simply not correct and is very misguided. The Flyers will undoubtedly be over the upper limit and capped out. They're not a very good team. That is not a good match. It's a very relevant discussion. To say that's about people needing to complain and feel good about themselves, is asinine. What people want is to feel good about the team. What is there to feel good about?

How does a player starting on IR change anything?

It is not pointless. They really cant make any moves. Why cant you grasp that concept.

Couple solid fee agents still out there to be had. You think having no cap space is a good thing?

- furio16

I do grasp that concept. What moves are they making? The only move they can make is if a layer gets hurt on another team and they ask the Flyers for a trade.

Do you want them to make a move to be a bottom 10 team where they get a 200 ft player in the draft or a bottom 5 team where they might get a really good player.

The team is going to be really bad, bottom 3 bad. Just accept it and move on.

Again, its impossible to have an intelligent back and forth with you about this, or anything to be honest, if all you want to do is look for any contradiction. The bottom line from me on this topic, and this is my last reply on it, is I was on board with the changes made in 21' and thought they had a good chance to work out and get this team to the next level. It all went to sh*t as it turned out, and now a new plan needs to put in place, not more band-aids. Fletcher has not demonstrated he has such a plan and that, and only that, is the reason I have lost confidence in him.
- jd250

All I want to do is look for contradiction? You do it constantly. Refuse to look inside and admit how wrong you've been about pretty much everything. You want to pretend that doesn't exist and offer your newest "expert" opinion. You joined the end of a very, very long line of people who were there before you and now you want credit as if you formed the line.

You still don't realize that the moves in 21 were band aids. That wouldn't stick. I knew it then and told you so. You disagreed with me 1,00000%. LOL

What moves are they making? That is not relevant as they are over the cap. They cant make any. God forbid they where in position to help out another teams cap issues and get come picks/prospects back in return. Nah being over the cap doesn't matter.

What I want to see happen doesn't matter nor does it change the fact that being over the cap isn't pointless. It is a very valid concern.

If they are healthy they likely wont be bottom 3.

IR is different than LTIR

I believe they need to be cap compliant before using any LTIR - I could be wrong though

- corduroy

Off season LTIR is now available in the league. Not 100% sure how that plays with being cap compliant coming out of camp though.

Or the coots extension
Or risto trade
Or risto extension
Etc

- Stayin alive

I have no issue with the Couturier extension. I don’t have an issue with trading for Ristolainen or extending him. What I have an issue when it comes to the Risto situation is the cost it took to get him, in a roster player and a first round pick. I would have never gave up a first for Risto but with this said, that trade looks even worse if you don’t extend Risto in my opinion. Like I’ve said, I’ll be judging the player purely by this coming season.

I have such mixed feelings on the up coming season. On one hand I want the Flyers to be tough to play against and the players giving everything they got. On the other side I want a shot at a top 3 draft pick. Is it possible to have both?
- Flybynight88

Yes because they aren't that good even at 100% effort.

No it doesn't. A smart savvy GM cuts his losses and recoups some of the assets he gave up by trading him at the deadline.

What happens if and when Ellis comes back. That’s really going to mess the cap situation up.
I’m thinking CF knows Ellis is not going to be back anytime soon.
With the flyers luck they have to send a guy or two down to Lehigh that are having very good seasons and they get claimed on waivers.

- bird_dog_pa

plan is to have Ellis return at the TDL, right after they trade JVR

Yep, I want to see how Hart bounces back or not, and how Frost plays.
- hockeylover

Hart, we hope can regain some sort of confidence and able to stop people from picking corners on him at will.
Frost, see Jordan Weal's career for a map to where he is headed. AHL top liner baby!

Ellis has been rehabbing for four months now. When do we get an update from Fletcher?

I absolutely believe that Fletch is on the hot seat and has dug his own grave with some questionable moves. BUT, what would a new GM be able to do at this point? No other team is stepping up to take on JVR or any other dead weight. They won't be able to magically heal Ellis. Best they can do is sell their vision and start the process ASAP. It will still take time.

I believe we are stuck this year and need to plan for 2-3 years down the road. With or without Fletch. Regardless it will be a LONG YEAR... Let's go boys!

Lather, rinse, repeat...

Under redundant in the dictionary it says, "See redundant."

Good question. When do the local beat writers, especially the ones employed by comcast, start questioning what is wrong with him? How could this go from day to day to who knows when or if he will play again? Or maybe they ask did chuckles ever question why he had to give up so little to obtain ellis? They could as why did they give up picks and ghost to only give up more picks to acquire the same type player a year later?

Dollars to donuts the comcast employees will never ask these questions

He’s not playing another game in the NHL, maybe he just hasn’t accepted that himself yet.

This is how irrelevant the Flyers have become. Eagles ready to start. Phil's in the playoff mix. Sixers contenders.

Flyers want the Broad Street Bullies formula in 2022.

So now we're back to planning for 2-3 years down the road. I hope the Flyers learn along with some fans that this is not a 2-3 year fix. It's a 5-10 year fix with hopefully some steady incline of improvement along the way. What the Flyers did in firing Hextall, who wanted a patient approach to what they've done with Fletcher will wind up setting the team back for a decade overall. If they're lucky.
- MJL

Most fans hate having to wait, but that's the reality. Nothing or no one is going to change that right now. Well, if Fletch pulls off a monster trade and changes the trajectory of the organ-I-zation instantly. We know he is not capable of that.

Any odds on which Flyer prospect(s) suffer the first season ending injury during the first Flyers/Rangers rookie game?
