Cons will select a mini trump as their leader and the other guy (NDP) has no team or priorities. Options suck...nobody is presenting a good offer. I smell another minority liberal. - Symba007
Yeah, I'm even more hopeless for the federal election.

Not a fan of all of what PP says but he’s no where near Trump level. He seems to be swaying a lot of younger people his way. Still a long time until an election though so who knows what will happen in the meantime. |

That, and add to it that press and media are the enemy. Duhaime is using the Trump playbook. |

I guess if the trade market was not really there, or what Vancouver wanted for him, then the other option is to pay him.
36 is not terrible, but not ideal.
Most of the people in charge will be long gone before that becomes their issue.

yup. it's basically a "retirement deal", any GM will get (frank)ed over by one at some point. you just hope during the last years of the deal that the player stays relatively healthy and won't be too slow to still contribute in some way. |

So you want to double down by adding a bad contract on to a bad trade? - TurdFergeson
Bad trade? Romanov has a ceiling which he is soon approaching. Big hitter but little else. Still time to prove me wrong. Dach is a 6'4" centremen who has potential to be a C1 or C2. You make that deal all day long. Two year bridge at 2.25M and hope he makes you pay on his next deal. Another win for Hughes |

I mean you DID, but.... - BINGO!
Yes but were not yet overpaying him for the next seven years |

Maybe he realizes he doesn't want to ruin his chances of playing for a franchise that may 1 day make the playoffs |

Young D like romanov are hard to find....guys like Mcdonaugh or sergachev you never trade....even a hard hitter ljke Chelios.....you never deal especially for a guy who "could" be good |

Unless you are dealing from a position of strength.
Habs have a lot of high quality D prospects, some that can do the same job/role as Romanov. Center has always been a glaring weakness on this team, and they went out and addressed that.
What I think they may regret is while other players can fill Romanov's void (in the pipeline), not sure any of them have the all-in hockey attitude that Romanov has. I loved this kid's attitude and love of the game. I thought it was great for team dynamics.
