Indeed.

Personally, I like it.

Romanov is much more of a sure thing as a 2nd pair defenseman but we have very interesting prospect coming up as LHD to replace him in the short/mid term.

We had no one of Dach's potential at centre in the pipeline.

For a rebuilding franchise, it makes total sense to me. Despite the risk.

Honestly I liked Romanov and I would have kept him, but I don't think he'll become much more than what he is now.

You have no prospects with the potential to be David Steckel?

Safer? Probably.

But that also prevents us from getting a good deal as we'll have to pay him "what he's worth or more" moving forward.

Both strategies can work and there are downsides to both imo.

- Scabeh

I get that, but like I was saying I doubt the habs would end up having to make an overpayment for Dach, I feel he'll have a nice but rather slow progression, and after 2 years he won't have the numbers to be asking for 4 or 5M+.

my 2 cents, but I understand the point that it's a tough call to make. it's pretty easy playing armchair GM, I trust Hughes and the management team have a better idea than I do lol

good deal. Romanov won't turn into Bobby Orr. never. he'll become a decent 2nd pairing dman, physical but will little to no offense.

Really? I think he can put around 30 points on the board when he hits his prime

That's when you get stung. How do we prevent that from happening in the first place?

yeah, he's still young. Like I said, I would have kept him, but if Dach's new start helps him become the player he was projected, I'm all for it. This team has been struggling to find centers for decades now.

Habs must really have not liked Wright to go there and take that gamble.
