Don’t let these truck snobs get you down, if it does what you need it to do then love your truck as much as you like.

How so?

An Avalanche box is 8’+ with the mid gate opened. So getting a truck & buy a utility trailer to tow it seems redundant lol

lol sorry bud that's Blade Runner. Period.
- LordHumungous

Blade Runner is definitely top five. I put it next to Aliens or Alien. But I think 2001 needs to be crowned as #1 because it’s so iconic, so influential.

Aliens and 2001 for sure certainly could make the argument. But I still think Blade Runner is #1. Stands the test of any time regardless. It's one of the very few cinematic masterpieces we have IMO. Top 3 (for me) are

Blade Runner
Empire Strikes Back
Alien(s)

After that it's a craps shoot IMO. District 9 and 12 Monkeys need to be in the top 10-15 for sure.

Interesting list to be sure:

2001 gets a bit too acid trip near the end. We took our teen to see it in IMAX a few years back. He was not nearly as captivated as we were.

Blade Runner also a good one, didn’t much care for the reboot. So many quotable scenes. I’ve watched the Alien series a dozen or more times probably, enjoy each film for it’s particular strengths.

But for it’s profound effect on the genre and movies to come. 1977’s Star Wars is at the top of the list. I can still remember how captivated I was from just the opening scene.

Blade Runner 2049 was excellent but in a different way. The precedent was already set with the Original so very tough to beat. Denis Villeneuve the Blade Runner 2049 Director also did the new Dune movie...which was also very well done but not epically. Star Wars is for sure one of the tops as well.

I wouldn’t put either District 9 or 12 Monkeys in my top 15. So many other great sci fi movies:

Matrix
Brazil
Jurassic Park
The Thing
The Wrath of Khan
ET
New Hope
Terminator
RoboCop
The Fly
Ex Machina
Close Encounter
Loopers

It goes on and on and on.

I liked the first half of Dune. I’ve read the series recently, so it’s nice to see the story evolve. It’s a tough movie to follow if you haven’t read it. My wife kept asking what was going on… looking forward to the second half.

I liked the Dino de Laurentis version in the ‘80’s as well, but they had to cut out so much to make it fit into 2 hours, and they changed what they needed to make it make some sense.

I didn’t think someone could have a top five sci fi movie list without either New Hope or Empire Strikes Back. One of those must be in there even if you ain’t a Star Wars fan. Too impactful not to be.

If I had to choose, it'd be ESB, just for how well they set up the twist of Vader being Anakin... but because of the prequels, sequels and other series twisting and changing the original trilogy's canon, it's hard to see them as great. Maybe if Disney hadn't taken over Star Wars I'd still have one of them in my top 5. I mean, the fact that the Obi-Wan series changes the fact that Vader and Obi-Wan met and fought with Obi-Wan winning only 7-8 years before their final battle kind of makes me shake my head.

What about it? Great novel but the movies are so so. The latest instalment is visually stunning but the screenplay is average at best.

The older version with Sting was not very good. Not a fan of David Lynch.

Now that’s an interesting argument.

Sci fi is such a broad term it’s hard to put a definition on it. I always considered Sci fi essentially speculative fiction. Speculative in the sense that those storylines do not exist in reality. That would mean it covers stories in the context of supernatural, futuristic, or imaginative worlds. Highlander and EFNY would definitely fall within that definition of Sci fi.

I mean, ESB is the best of all the SW movies, and if I never watched anything but the ORIGINAL trilogy (meaning pre-Lucas making Han shoot first remaster) It would likely be my #2 behind Alien (which is also my favorite horror film BTW)
