Habs need to clear cap space, 3 ways of doing it.

Price in LTIR
Byron on LTIR
Trade

- Symba007

With Price on LTIR they have a little under 300K of cap space. They still need to shed salary.

3rd line center salary...they will work with him to see how much offense he can produce.

Yes it is a bit of a gamble but I guess they want to avoid Dach having a good season and come asking for more than 5M/yr next year. He is 21yrs old...coming back from a big wrist injury. There is untapped potential...but will his wrist hold up?

- Symba007

he should be well past the wrist injury. it been 2 years now. at least physically.

nowhere close to danault defensively and unless he improves at the dot drastically he won't be.

at least this time they didn't trade the player for a horse and condiments.

Romanov was used to get the pick needed for Dach...so the Diaz trade is STILL ALIVE

Maybe he needs to play his own game instead of thinking about passing to two star players.

Nonetheless, it remains a gamble by Hughes at this point. We'll see how it turns out but the risk is worth it imo.

Habs putting Price on LTIR today

they now have 9.5M in cap space available (LTIR space) left after the Dach contract.

You can take on a bad contract now for another first rounder + if they give up their NMCs.
Erik Karllson?
Drew Doughty?
Jeff Skinner?
Kasperi Kotkaniemi?

not a big fan of the deal personally, but I guess his contract won't become a huge cap anchor if things don't work out as planned....

So small gamble for potential big reward?

What's not to like?

well even if it isn't a huge cap hit, it still represents a 4-year commitment, but yeah it does have the potential of becoming a very interesting deal for the habs. Dach must be really happy about it, let's hope he'll be extra-motivated with his new team.
