Thanks Carol
Long term, this contract is terrifying, however, in the short term, I'm glad Miller is still on the team. He makes the team better in a lot of ways, and I think he's good for the younger guys on the team to have around. |

Thanks Carol, nice to hear that Millsey recognizes his own shortcomings and is working hard to be a more complete player.
Will you be profiling some of the kids we’ll see shortly in the young stars tourney? |

Hopefully they'll release a roster soon!
I asked Allvin today who we should be watching out for. He lit up at the mention of the tournament but only spoke in generalities, said he thinks there will be players there who will be trying to capture management's attention...

Thanks Carol. I’ve been watching for those rosters as well. Got tickets for the Canuck Flame matchup, be nice to know who’s participating.
So with Alvin coming out a stating Bo is part of the core, is there a chance we see him signed before camp? 7x7? |

I disagree. It's $8m dollars. There will undoubtedly be a substantial rise in the salary cap by the time the contract is 3 years in. |

Why do you doubt it? Is inflation going to bring down the salary cap? There will still be people that have money to attend games. Salaries will rise and the dollar will be worth less. |

I doubt that it will go up “significantly” in three years. To me, a significant increase would be to $90m, which is just less than 10% |

First of all it's 4 years, as I said 3 years into the deal.
Secondly, that's only a 2.5% rise per year. I could easily see a rise exceeding 16% over that time frame. |

In other words, if all else goes to poop this year and Miller is a beauty then his trade value is off the charts.
Most likely is he's a key piece moving forward. It's really not what I expected from the Miller deal, he's exceeded all expectations.
I don't mind the signing at all, 7 x 8 is much more palatable than 8 x 9.5. |

It's based off of revenue. If inflation hits everything aside from NHL ticket prices I'll be shocked. |

If I am not mistaken, as part of the CBA, it has to go up by at least 1 million per season anyways, so 2 years from now, it is 84.5 million.
This is the time frame that Daly had suggested that the escrow will have been caught up/paid off.
Which is roughly 3 years earlier than predicted, I don't think 90 million in 4 years, is unrealistic, unless fans stop attending games, stop paying for league paraphernalia, etc.

The entire US professional sports industry grows at about 3% per year. Without doing any real research, I would guess that the NFL is growing more. I bet the NHL pulls that average down. |

Who cares what Miller gets paid, Canucks aren’t worried about that. This Management group is only worried about improving the team and Miller gives them a better chance at that.4-5 years from now could be a new group in charge.
I like that Miller is wanting Podz on his line, great mentor for him. Maybe Mikheyev gets the other wing, they say he can play chippy when he wants and Miller may bring the best out of him. |

For context, what's the growth of everything else. As in......wait for it.....inflation? |

I wonder how much the inflation/cost of operating a NHL team will impact the profit of the NHL?
Fuel alone is going to go through the roof. Think it's bad now, the G7 has decided to cap the price of Russian oil and Russia is simply not going to sell at those prices. We haven't seen anything yet when it comes to high fuel prices then. How much fuel does it take to move 32 NHL teams around north America for an 82 game schedule? That's just one aspect of overhead.
Have we seen the end of Covid and reduced capacity attendance? I wouldn't bet on it...
These are not normal times so I wouldn't hold your breath on the rising cap bailing teams out of cap trouble. Over the next few years a lot can happen between war and pandemics. The way NATO keeps trying to escalate the Ukraine/Russo war could see things get far worse yet... things are heating up in the middle east. Proxies on both sides are very active again as they try and damage the economies and global relations of each other further driving up fuel prices and the inflation caused by it.. |
