Gonna say it right now before the season starts but don't sell on Asplund's impact to the team.

He’s a quality bottom 6 player, locker room presence level way up there? What makes his impact substantial?

His defensive acumen is top notch. He positively impacts everyone he pairs with. The reason for his minimal selke consideration is because his main competition is middle 6, and he's exceedingly good at it. Unfortunately he's not offensively talented enough to play on the top line, so he'll never be looked at like Bergeron or even Cirelli. But for what he's paid, he's incredibly valuable.

Once adding context to that, you realize he defensively dominates his competition, which is middle 6.

It's unfortunate that his offense is bad, because based on the minutes/competition, Asplund was the second best defensive forward based on individual impact in the entire league. His offense on the other hand was damaging to the team.

Keep him on the team, remove Girgs from the starting lineup. Let Asplund thrive as the shutdown player on the 4th line. If JJP can show he can play, his offensive upside is much higher, I think he can fill the 3rd line role spark plug role from the little I've watched him.

No JJP or Quinn at Sabres prospect challenge should calm some fears that the team wants them back in Rochester

Burke is interesting, really hadn't done much in the OHL and then grew a bit and exploded this year.

My fault, Girgs is vital to an assessment season as the 4th line LW...

Adams and co giving them every opportunity to make the roster, what are you looking to see throughout camp from them?

JJP - ideally takes role of spark plug, taking the 3rd line wing from Asplund moving him into 4th line

Quinn - Speed, control plays, aggressive shooter, taking the 2nd line wing from current roster player forcing Olo down to 3rd line or trading him.

I wouldn’t want to see them on the nhl roster playing 4th line and 2nd team pk so they have some work ahead of them to compete and earn those roles.

If JJP and Quinn make the team, then who is coming out?

I do think Girgs and Asplund are more or less redundant, and the same for Hinostroza and Okposo.

Okposo is likely resigned for a year (hopefully no 2).
I could see Girgs being traded at the TDL...give him a chance in his last year to go somewhere and contribute to a cup run.
Hino is left to walk away.

Where does that leave Asplund, other than as mentioned above except to play on the 4th line at LW or even C.

Why you love VO again?

I really don't understand how you irrationally love one and hate the other. Asplund may not be the toughest guy around, but he wins puck battles. He's not on the hot seat, he's a vital player in this lineup.

The shot and the goal scoring potential.

Big difference Lunaion.

Every team has room for a 25/30 goal scorer

You're very confusing sometimes. Asplund is a better Girgs. You should love him.

Soft perimeter players playing too high in the lineup are an issue for me.

What's confusing?

I like girgensons because you need a checking line with size to wear down opponents.

I like olofsson because hes a 25-30 goal scorer with an incredibly awesome sniper shot.

I really think asplund isnt wearing anyone down or scoring 25-30 goals.
