that was the year the Hawks went from last to first in one year with 6 rookies.

Was that the season perennial playoff team Montreal got bounced from the playoffs? I seem to remember the Hawks playing Montreal in the season finale one year. Montreal needed a win or X number of goals for the tie breaker to gain the final playoff spot. Hawks had a 2 or 3 goal lead midway through the 3rd and the Montreal coach pulled the goalie with several minutes to go to try to get a few more goals. Hawks kept putting in empty netters and won like 9-2.
Needless to say I'm one of those boomers who have been following the team since the Mikita and Hull era. |

I’m wondering if the Hawks leave Reichel in Rockford for at least the start of the season. Partly to none rush his development and partly to aid the tank. I agree that Reichel seems NHL-ready and doesn’t have much to prove at the AHL level. But the Hawks brass might see it differently. - DarthKane
I can see both happening and honestly there is no wrong answer here. He is still young (wont be 21 til May) so no need to rush him. I do think if he starts in Rockford it wont be long and once Kane gets moved he's going to be up for good. |

Actually I was going to ask something like that too ... hell I ran into Stosh at a Memorial Day parade in Elmhurst as a kid ... would have been over 50 years ago... - SC116
I grew up in Elmhurst--4 houses away from Bannerman. Also home to Tony-O, Savard, etc. |

One of my good pals grew up on the same block as Bobby Hull in Addison and has many pics of playing street hockey with the Hull boys. The other "later-to-be-famous" family from the block next store was the Portillo family. |

Man were those the days, I idolized and styled my game off of Amonte. Still bugs me that they couldnt build a team around JR and Amonte they both deserved Cups - Zach Jarom
I wanted to style my game off of Amonte but more resemble Jocelyn Lemieux
I agree, I remember JR crying in the broadcast booth after a Hawks cup win saying he never won. Broke my heart |

I'm not so sure of that. I'm in the camp that says Kane will want to stick with the Hawks and go for Stan Mikita's all time franchise point total. He's already won 3 Cups and maybe he feels that the record means more to him than another championship. Plus why would he want out this year? He had to realize that the team was going no where the last several years, with Stan's patchwork re-working of the roster and with boy wonder Colliton as the head coach for 3 of those seasons. He's had ample opportunity to request a trade before now.
Kane is 287 points behind Stash in career points. That's probably could be accomplished in 4 seasons. The question is not when he will be traded and for what return, but what type of term and $$$ will he seek in a contract extension.

I absolutely agree that becoming the all time leader in Hawks history is important to Kane and I really hope he decides to stick around. I just cant picture that playing out.

Until the took his speed, and he got tentative and gone as the throw in for Pitt Martin, Goalie Jack The Future) Norris and fireplug, Gilles Mayotte who was the odd rookie dee-man out when Bobby Orr arrived three years younger and filling any spot he had the chance of filling in bean town.

In think the hawks had an agreement after expansion took away the 6 team ownership of junior team clubs the hawks invested $ getting ones froM THE WESTERN PRO WHL RANKS as that L A Team had Bobby schmaltz and Portland's and Jerry Korab (who was original a St Cath TeePee and Rick FOLEY.
It is not so much that young vets were not UFAs but many were unattached but familiar in different NHL front offices, so they were no so much buried talent as the older and seasoned part they press clipping players kept working their and some got hired as part Tim e pros or linger.
(Boy, I am glad IU was in the old building the the night they brought up Foley and Korab to add some edge.)

Then you remember the days when Bobby Hull would skate end to end then wind up for the slapper that would end up right under the press box. Back then there wasn’t any netting, you had to pay attention sitting under the press box. |

I had a season ticket in section M for ever.
I averaged three pucks a season, and always gave them to the kids that I thought we young new fans.
I still make the stops from my arm chair when the show that angle on TV replays.
My wife once took one between us with nice matching black and blue brushing on the outer thighs...
Came home another time with a rainbow scortum, but the worst almost encounter was one that didn't happen.
didn't happen.
My friend Matt Ryan was to sloshed to get back in time for the last period, and a shot was on it's way, I stood, with high hand up where if he was their and stood his HEAD would have been. it went by in a blur between my head and thumb, and Hirt a lady;'s cheek deflected back down and broke or at very least bloodied another lady's nose off to the side in. my row. |

I sat right under the BlackHawks Standby's banner. I almost got impaled by a slapper from Dennis Hull one time.

Didn't Dan Maloney come in before Korab but they traded him away? One pound for pound tough SOB. |
