I’m not a Hawks fan, but I can offer words of consolation for fans about to spin into supreme suckitude. I’m a Sabres fan - I know!

I now live in Portugal but once traveled extensively and was able to combine responsibility with passion. I have visited nearly every barn in the NHL and many AHL, ECHL, NCAA venues. My favorite barn, May it rest it peace, was the Joe in Detroit.

But favorite place to watch hockey was Chicago. You combined midwestern hospitality with conviviality and plenty of awareness of the game. You’re gonna have that broadshouldered hospitality and knowledge of the game throughout the looming, uhm, dryspell. I’ll be watching and hoping you get through it with minimal pain.

Obviously you weren't there when the Hawks played Vancouver and rows of chairs went tumbling down. I watched some idiot put a headlock on a cop. Wonder if he survived?

Was thinking about this. Anyone think Theo experienced a bit of burnout churning out so much content, none of it being lazy content?
- Mr Ricochet

I think the depth and detail Theo went into was fantastic. But it must have taken a huge amount of time. Maybe a couple of short blogs and one longer blog per week will keep Zach from burning out. I look forward to Theo and Cameron commenting on Zach’s blogs.

Don't care if you were the 13th forward on a Huskies Black squad, you had a helluva lotta game!! Those teams were fantastic and could blow people out at invite tournaments. I'm impressed.

This would have been 1975ish. Not sure if it was Pee Wees or Bantams, not sure what tournament or arena. Great question if that goal was on the PK or a period was down to a few seconds for him to shoot from his blueline but he did. Don't remember.

This 12-13 yr old had a shot like an 18-19 yr old. Kinda shot that could/would hurt you as a goalie never mind a forward or Dman. In fact he took 7-8 shots from inside his attack zone, felt like 78 shots, and everyone in front of him on both teams scattered and got the hell outa the way. Not even a pretense of blocking that howitzer. So I saw every shot fine and stopped em all except for that one from his blueline.

The shot started off head high, above the crossbar, as a screaming saucer, maybe 100 ft out it started to wobble/knuckle then dove down into the ice 2-3 ft in front of me so I went down to frame it and it bounced right over my shoulder top shelf... Kinda like a shortstop caught on an in between hop that eats you up. Looking back I was too deep in my net but never thought it would dive like it did.

Do you remember that kid? Playing rat as a 20 something I faced plenty of D1 and even pro shooters but this kid to this day was the scariest shooter I ever faced. If you are near his age and were a Husky you know him. Were you that monster???

- Mr Ricochet

HI Rico, I'm too old to be that guy. I had a big slapshot as a yout, not much of a wrister, and decent snapper. I did once go bar down from my own blueline killing a penalty as a bantam, but it was at the outdoor Y which wasn't full size. I played D then and the Y did not have radius corners. It had 45 degree angled corners. A guy would try to wheel around me and all of a sudden there was this straight wall in the corner and he had nowhere to go. Lot of train wrecks in those corners. We had to play all of our midget home games on the road cuz no other teams would come there to play us. Can't blame them.

Welcome Zach lots going on with the hawks. I your opinion does Seth Jones get traded? We already know towes and Kane will be when and for what is anyone's guess. That's for another blog down the road on what the returns would be.
- Scott1977

Definitely a down the road blog but I have spoken with my podcast host about this a few times this summer while trying to figure out the rebuild plan and personally I think that its going to take way to much to move that contract. Not many teams can afford it and there isnt a rush to move on just yet.

Stat of the game. SF 12 penalties Da Bears 3!!! A coached up, prepared, competent, hungry club that executed and stayed within the game plan. ..... My hope is this is what an under talented Hawks squad looks like as they lose games.

Don't see many games anymore in crazy rainy conditions like the old days. Made the win even more fun.

Very true, but that QB can buy almost another 5 seconds to throw the ball, which is such a big advantage for an offense. He can't read the defense yet, but if he can over time he'll be lethal.

In a way it's like watching Kane buy a little extra time for his teammates to get in position which lead to greater scoring chances

Nice analogy, Dots

I really am hoping some young dmen ripen here under Richardson. You think as a dman in his time, Richardson can help young dmen.take the next step. And I mean with his system, to become proficient even as rookies or very early in their career

Simplifying the structure should help everyone, but I would be cautious in expecting that to notably ramp up the development curve for the young D-men. There will still be growing pains to push through with them. Recognizing the play, maintaining gaps, when to pinch, etc. Those are all learned traits and reflexes. Regardless of the scheme, it is only the very rare defenseman that suits up his rookie year.

I agree with you, many of these football players are already young developed men as they enter the league, big difference between 18 year olds and 20 something year olds.
