Well according to cbs sports, both signed 2way contracts.

Puckpedia had them as 1 way contracts.

One would think they would be two way. Or we could be supplying 4-5 teams with waiver wire gold.

That's not what two-way means. All two-way means is they're paid different salaries if they're in the NHL or AHL. It has nothing to do with waivers. Every defenceman mentioned here has to clear waivers, but I think Mackey and Meloche are the only ones who would definitely get claimed.

With a 23 man roster limit the Flames will likely start the season with 8D, 13F, 2G.
So baring a trade we would have to expose 2 of our 10 D who require waivers.
Likely Gilbert and 1 of Vali, Meloche or Mackey.
Training camp is going to be a battle on defense!

It would be unconventional but I think they could opt for 9D, 12F and 2 G if they choose to.

I’m sure they this has been discussed and they’ve got a plan. There’s a good article on Flamesnation about waivers.

Thanks for the heads-up on the article. I have to spend more time over there.

I am bored and just want hockey to start. This brings me to the first of which will be many horrible trade proposals.

IMO the ideal lineup for our current players looks something like this.

Hubs-Lind-???
Mang-Kadri-Toffoli
Dube-Backs-Coleman
Lucic-Rooney-Lewis

I think the Flames are a top RW power forward away from being a contender. I also think the Flames window closes in 3 years. So might as well go all in.

Scenario 1) Mange for Josh Anderson.

It would hurt long-term, but to be honest, it helps the Flames win now. With Pellitier coming up, there is a replacement. Dube moves to 2nd line minutes and gets his chance to play with talent, and one of Ruzicka or Pelletier takes 3rd line LW.

I am not so sure Mange can keep scoring at the pace he did last year. So it would be selling high on a player who was on fire for the first part of the season and went really cold for the second half.

Scenario 2) Dube, Valimaki, and 1st for Josh Anderson with retained salary.

Montreal gets a pick, a guy that sounds french and is a middle-six forward and a once-promising first-round dman for MSTL to use his magic with. They also get younger.

Calgary adds some mean on the top line and a guy that can forecheck and get in front of the net. Calgary's first overall should be a later first, so it's not the end of the world.

Doable???

I think there’s enough of a leadership group in Calgary to see this happen. He played there in junior, and there’s the Canuck connection.

No one is touching Dube while the TC scandal is still being investigated. And the Habs want French, not French sounding guys.

My buddy who cheers for the Habs loved Dube until he discovered he was not Quebecois.

Where is the TC scandal at in its process? Are their findings coming out soon, or will it be a couple more years? I cannot believe how poorly the whole thing has been handled.

How are you feeling about your Oil this year? Are they good enough to make it past the Ave's?

The oil will fight just to make the playoffs.

The TC thing could take a while yet.

Looks like oil are out on Virtanen. He will be a flame?

Neither of those trades makes sense. Trading Mangiapane for Anderson makes the Flames worse and makes them a one-line team. The other trade makes no sense for the Habs. People need to get over Valimaki. He doesn't have any value. He was a third pairing dman in the AHL last year. He has all the deficiencies you'd expect from an offensive defenceman, but none of the offence to offset it.

The Flames need to move one of their top defencemen and try and make a Larsson for Hall type move.

I was also thinking about moving one of the top D men, but Darryl came out and said that the one thing Calgary does not have (that almost all real contenders do have) is a stud #1 dman. This makes me think he wants to hold onto all the top guys and play defence by committee.

I disagree that moving Mange turns Calgary into a one-line team. Kadri will bring some of offense that Backlund never had. Having Toffoli on the second line also gives the Flames someone with a decent shot. Dube causing havoc down low is not a bad idea.

Since Iginla we have been short on Centerman. Now I see the top 6 as being one player short, (frank)ing Carpe Diem Brad!

That's why it makes sense to move one. They have 5 top 4 defencemen and they wouldn't miss one if everyone else stayed healthy. Even Zadorov is a top 4 on a lot of teams. Kane is the ideal add and gives the Flames as good a shot as anyone to win the Cup. Andersson would make a lot of sense for the Hawks, but it doesn't look like Kane wants to go anywhere.

Assuming they extend Weegar.

I would bring Virtanen in; nothing to lose. If you believe the Canuck thread, the guy had all the makings of a great player, but he was more interested in the party.

The public smearing he received and the possibility of having to get a real job should be enough to change his priorities. If not, Daryll will sack his ass.

I think the Oil finish first. But McD will have to be in beast mode to make it happen. Unfortunately Holland is wasting away McDavids best years.

Most people don’t realize it but Thompson was going to be the starter this year regardless of Lehner’s injury. They were shopping Lehner trying to get rid of him. Thompson is a going to surprise the hell out of most people. They didn’t miss the playoffs because of goaltending or defense. It was because they couldn’t score when it mattered. They went like 0 for 37 in the shootout down the stretch or something like that. They’ll be the team to beat in the pacific again this year. Like Sutter said; they’re the best team in hockey if they can ice a healthy team.

I think you are close just you have Vegas where Edmonton will be. While a Kings fan, I recognize the Oilers are largely the same team. A team that really turned it on after a coaching change and flat out outplayed the Flames in the playoffs and beat the Kings up too. So much talk about how the Flames are better everywhere but the first line. However... that is one hell of a first line and no one really has been able to shut him down.
