Should’ve signed subban when we had the chance.. now we got this hickey character .. no hope for Subban. We’ll miss that veteran presence.

Hickey is great defensively. He would be great on the 3rd pair, playing steady D.

He'd better be prepared to eat pucks. Not sure why people get worked up on a PTO. Nothing to lose on this one. We needed a shakeup.

Haven't checked in on this site in some months, but what are we to make of the Butcher Trade. Seems odd that we acquire a RD with term after drafting a RD at 2nd overall, inking Dougie too a long term deal, and having Sevo lead our D squad in Points. There is a little congestion on the Right, and Walsh sure looks to be a promising prospect too boot. Safe to say Sevo will be on the trading block this season?

Sev doesnt warrant a raise, but hes gonna get at least 6. He hasnt really gotten better, but he hasnt gotten worse either. I'd love for him to finish off as a Devil but not cap strapping the team as a result.

Butcher, I think there was something going on behind the scenes that we arent told. His rookie year it seemed like he was getting an assist every game. Then something happened and he just kinda disappeared. Weird stuff.

I can see Sev going to Toronto or Edm. They need a solid D man and they might have some pieces Fitz might be interested in.

Regardless, Im super excited for this season!

For sure. Excited to see a hopefully healthy Blackwood aided by Vitek. Also excited to see what Holtz can do when surrounded by some higher caliber players. He doesn't belong in the AHL, and Devs are again understaffed at RW. Sees like a great time to give the kid a shot in the top 6.

Im actually glad Holtz was in the AHL for the same reason I like Luke playing College (even though it would be exciting having him here already).

They are learning how to be pros and adults. I think this makes the chance of their success in the NHL highly probable.

And if its true that Holtz has the best shot in the Devils organization, hot damn is he gonna be good.

I think they’re putting together a huge offer for pk, leagues biggest contract for sure. Just have to move a few pieces to make work.

Depends what Severson will get us in a trade. There’s no crime in having a good dman on each pair for the next several years. Would be refreshing. We also don’t know if Nemec will pan out (though he obv should), or just how good he’ll be. He may struggle and eventually just be a 3rd/borderline 2nd pair guy.. you never know. I’ve learned over the past decade that we can get really excited for some of our kids and then they end up flopping at the nhl level. Doesn’t hurt to keep solid players. Walsh or whoever can always move to their off-wing if they’re really that good.

But it also may be smarter to trade sevo, depending on what he’s asking salary wise and what the return is. We’ll see. Ready for freaking hockey already.

Severson is Mark Fraser 2.0
Nothing to write home about but when on a team that sucks he looks like a stud to some for whatever reason.

He gets traded he’ll instantly be #4-5

Hey party people. You know what time it is.

I've been running a 20 team yahoo league for the past 12 years and always have a few openings. It's primarily hockeybuzz peoples (though now I realize it would've made sense for people to use their hockeybuzz names as their team names.. but I digress).

20 teams, large rosters, live snake draft, no keepers, no money. The draft takes about 2.5 hours, so it's an experience.

Stats include FW, hits, blocks.

Draft date isn't finalized yet.

I'm thinking anytime on the evening of Friday the 23rd (this is my personal preference), closer to 7EDT on Saturday the 1st, or closer to 9EDT on Sunday the 2nd.

I'm still waiting on another league I'm in to finalize their draft date. I gotta be selfish here.. cuz I really don't wanna draft this league while that draft is also happening.

Send me a message if you're interested!

Coleman was essentially a bottom 6 guy who landed us two 1st rd picks. Not saying Sevo will bring that same return, but his offensive numbers were good enough to generate some interest. Not sure where Marino lands in the depth charts, but if Sevo is potentially being sent to the bottom pairing, it makes sense to flip him before his numbers potentially dip.

Count me in again for this season. However I cannot do the draft on 9/23 or 9/24 so would prefer a different day/time. Thanks Buddy!

I'll try to make it work. Would you still be in if the draft ends up being the 23rd? I'm assuming your team name is.. Crushers.

Sevo will get us a 1st+ on trade deadline day. Someone might overpay before that day if he’s the only top4 dman available.

I'd like to have some fun...

The upcoming season we will have many players that could potentially not be resigned as well as having a ton of cap space.

Looking at next years UFA, who would you sign and for how much? Meir? Horvat? Barzal?

Also, is Hughes going to be the contract on offense that the Devils won't go higher for another player? Is that the issue with Bratt's contract demands?

We should have plenty of money to add an impact player to go with our young stars now that we’ve set aside 6mil for Palat for the next 5 years. Don’t care the cap is going up.. this signing doesn’t do it for me. Meier would be epic in comparison.

Nikita Okhotiuk has thrown some hits and just fought a 6’7” dude that plastered Nemec. Hopefully he sticks and we don’t need to waste a roster spot on Geertsen.

Thoughts on the game

Holtz had a good game, quiet at the start but came alive as it progressed with a couple nice plays including almost setting up a goal on a cross ice pass, showed his shot with both goals. At times looked a little slow

Nemec looked pretty controlled with the puck. Did get caught up ice a couple of times which allowed Montreal to have odd man chances, including one where he was forechecking behind the Habs goal for a little while

Walsh has a strong game and expect him to continue and push in camp to try to make the NHL roster

Bahl while had an assist or two didn't really stand out either way, which is good as he didn't really make any mistakes, kinda was just there, kind of like tallinder

Ok (defender can't remember his name or spelling) had a decent game, showed his strength and hits, showed he came to teammates aid and had a fight after Nemec was hit

Foote was ok, didn't really stand out but did take a couple of penalties

Stillman well I can't remember

Yes it's a prospects game and means nothing but without hockey for so long it was something and gives us something to talk about

So in other words all our top prospects didn’t really standout other than 2 shots that went in. Sounds about right.
