Tyler Motte sign one year at 1.35 m - Crosside
Wonder if this is because Formenton and Batherson 🤔 |

|
This Motte signing just seems unnecessary.
Almost like Dorion does these signings just to give competition to his young guys to do better to get in the lineup but unfortunately DJ doesn't get the memo to dress the better player.
Could this also be to push a 4rth liner up to replace Formenton? |

100%
need that memo put in the paper, take up a full page add. I'm sure there's some very hungry talent in Belleville that would push

I don't really get this signing.
but whatever... - Octavarium
Your team's bottom-6 forwards can't just made up of inexperienced big-bodies, and speed is always a welcome addition to the roster. They've upgraded the top-6 forwards nicely, but done very little to replace some of the hard defensive minutes that Brown used to play. Motte is a high-energy winger, who despite his size has a higher hits/60min rate than Brady Tkachuk since 2018/19, was top-5 in the NHL among forwards for blocked shots/60min last year, and can handle 2-3min/GP of PK ice time. Plus, they have Kelly in the last two-way year of his contract, and Kastelic on his ELC... so it's a marginal $$$/AAV cost, to add NHL-quality depth for the coming season. |

Motte is a nice depth signing. It is a long season. There will be injuries and if the Sens make the playoffs Motte will be a very nice piece. If Sens fail to make playoffs Motte will be a good trade deadline acquisition for another team.
But, signing Motte further confirms that the Sens have done a great job on rebuilding the forward lines. Nice changes in goal as well.
However, these great changes also shine a light on the fact that they have done nothing to improve the defence.

Motte is a better goal scorer in the playoffs than Mitch Marner, playing horrible minutes |

I'm hoping Motte signing means a trade coming with Arizona......
For a certain D-man |

You might want to be more specific... Arizona signed Josh Brown earlier in the summer. |

Good thought, would Sens give up Formenton? |

I think for the right deal, yes. Only for a big trade though.
Another question is, would teams trade for Formenton, given the current questions marks surounding him. |

Makes me wonder if Formenton is part of a deal for a D and they are stocking up on forwards. |

I can just imagine the heads exploding around Ottawa as Dorion tells the press that Josh Brown is the top 4 RD they needed with DJ Smith saying they need a big tough defensive defenseman like him playing in the top 4. |

I like the signing of Motte. He's a good PK guy I believe. Losing Paul, Brown and Formenton (maybe) on the PK is pretty brutal. |

I was joking mainly but who knows eh, anything can happen. I think Formenton will sign a deal soon - but if he is going anywhere, it's to Arizona for Chychrun or another D-man. I don't think the Sens trade him since they need guys that can play PK. I think we all know that loosing Formenton (after loosing top 2 PK guys in Connor Brown and Nick Paul from last season) that would not be ok.
Does anyone else find it problematic, concerning, or any other thoughts about Sens not playing any of their top 6 PK mins??

Ilisten, Kevin you was good. I would like someone ask you if Zub extension coming this week. I m not sure if I have understand correctly, if they said your back next week - Crosside
Thanks for listening in and the kind word! The feedback has been off the charts from the podcast. I will be on again next week.
As for Zub, I truly think they get it done by the start of training camp. If they don't, then it means PD wants to see how the pre-season plays out with the youth on the blueline.

I don't mind the signing. I talked about the loss of Brown and Paul last night on the podcast....they played a great 200 foot game.

Great point about the forwards and in goal. PD has been so much resources into those areas but there glaring weakness is on D!

Few things could more effectively undo the 'summer of Dorion'. Maybe they could hire Hoffman's wife for the front office, and the Spartan to run the A/V club. |

Holy jumping as Darren Pang would put it. I watched half of the show last night on youtube and the rest just now, outside of the 10 min freezing part due to the thunder storm you mentioned, Kevin that was super what info you gave us Sens fans. Hats off to you sir.

Appears Motte will line up with Pinto and Joseph. It will be a solid defensive unit.
Now! They need to flip assets and acquire a top 4 D. Also need to sign Zub.
Love this team. Will love it even more when they add a quality player on the back end.
Depends on regular season, but right now, it appears Dorion may start season with inside track on being named GM of year.
Some heads will explode but it can only happen if Smith remains in the running for coach of the year.
