Big chance for one of the young defensemen to step up into that spot. Mitchell did improve at Rockford last year and Regula looked good in his call up near end of the season. Vlasic plays similar defensive defenseman role that McCabe does. McCabe is really injury plagued. He just started coming around the later part of the season |

McCabe's timely injury opens up at least one spot for a prospect.
As it stands now:
LD - Stillman, Johnson, C. Jones
RD - S. Jones, Murphy (if not still on IR), Regula/Mitchell or both depending on Murphy's status.
If Murphy plays maybe Regula/Mitchell becomes the 7D. If Murphy is out, Vlasic, Galvas, Phillips, or Roos as the 7D.
It will most likely come down to who has the best camp and catches the coaches eyes.
And you never know, maybe a team suffers some D injuries in camp and come looking for some depth. Stillman or C. Jones could be expendable.

Would you prefer to keep Vlasic in Rockford and let him develop a little bit more? I'm very excited to see him getting regular playing time but don't want to rush him.

Will probably see the I90 shuttle quite a bit. Vlasic, Galvas, Roos et al will all have their chance IMO.

Agreed, camp will determine much of who moves up to the bigs. Richardson has not seen all these kids yet so really anything can happen. Blend that with KD seemingly learned from Bowman the dangers of bringing kids up too early, not wanting kids to be around a horrid team too long tough to handicap who will be up. ..... Just might be a couple handful of games for 3-4-5 different players.
But due to his age, 23, and RFA status next yr they probably wanna get a good look at Mitchell. Looks like they hedged their bet with the signing of Roos, also 23. He does have 150ish pro games in Sveden and they won't care much about ruining/stunting his development with a bad Hawk squad this yr.

Phillips, he played top minutes last year at the Rock. They want Vlasic to get those minutes this year. Plus Phillips is left handed Right now Stillman and C. jones is top 4. I see J. Johnson as the 7th defenseman. I can see a Phillips A. Jones pairing. |

I would love to see me from him this year. I thought he looked good in the 4 games he played last year.
The depth and options we have when it comes to backend prospects is great. Hopefully a few hit and we get a nice look into the future.

Think it might be best for him to at least start in RFD. He is only going to be 21 in a couple of weeks. Let him start in RFD and bring him up if his play warrants it.

They have enough vets to not rush any of them. Tho, Vlasic didn't look out of place at all to me. |

Would say Vlasic or Galvas, whichever looks the best in camp, whoever it is play them in the top 4. Or could use one for a while, then the other.
Rooting for Beaudin to get the 7th spot, since he is not waiver exempt, and get one more chance to get some playing time. |

As you know Beaudin leap over other prospects is.....well not even a long shot. If Beaudin looks good in camp then he will be closely monitored in AHL Maybe Beaudin would become a late bloomer after a couple or more AHL seasons - that is his best story. Roos could move ahead of Beaudin..And I think Phillips needs to make a big step with consistency as in steady and uses his body physically in defensive plays. |

As I think more about it, it might be Beaudin. First, I think the Hawks are going to keep the prospects as far away from this dumpster fire as possible. Beaudin might be the sacrificial lamb in the year of embrace the suck. Other possibility is to rotate the youngsters for 10 game stints, to both evaluate where they are in development, and as a reward for good play ( hopefully)
Injuries will also play a part. Can Murphy play? Stillman seems to be injured often, is McCabe out more than 10 to 12 weeks? How long before he can play full time? Does Richardson tire of C. Jones playing 18 minutes a night? I think the fans will see several of the youngsters thruout the season. |

McCabe picking up the slack nicely in the wake of daHaan’s departure. Always gotta have one guy who leaves fans wondering if he could be part of the soloution, but is never healthy enough for us to find out. Congratulations on the new position Jake!

Certainly wouldn't want him to have a jarring experience during his development. |

I thought i heard KD state we want him to be completely healthy during the off season so he's ready to go next year. Sure sounds like they have every intention to play him at the NHL.
Like you said he didn't look out of place, in fact Jones and him looked good together |

I would say let one of the 23 year olds sink or swim. Chances are they won't be here when the team is relevant again and maybe one of them could prove to be a legitimate NHLer. My personal choice would be Galvas over Mitchell or Roos.
Nobody should be "winning" anything out of camp. We don't need the big club ruining a kid with a future. |
