Blackhawks Announce 2022 Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase Roster: https://www.nhl.com/black...owcase-roster/c-335545264

Looks like Aiden Thompson is still on the shelf with the busted up knee. Would have fit nicely in this showcase.

Interested to see 23 yr old FA Jaxson Stauber goalie who signed with the Hawks. Excellent numbers in the NCAA. Remember him well in the USHL as his Stampede beat the Steel in the Finals. Good sized kid went on a helluva run in those playoffs going 11-1 with a .941 SPG. ....... Gather enough reasonable goalie prospects, develop them properly and the hope is one hits and is an NHL level player.

Four 2022 draft picks are rostered.

Looks like the scrimmages will be live streamed.

Would say Vlasic or Galvas, whichever looks the best in camp, whoever it is play them in the top 4. Or could use one for a while, then the other.

Rooting for Beaudin to get the 7th spot, since he is not waiver exempt, and get one more chance to get some playing time.

I feel like Beaudin is this forgotten piece when it comes to the d prospects.

I think Beaudin's play last year put him behind almost everyone (except Ryan Stanton) that played D at the Rock last year.

Would you prefer to keep Vlasic in Rockford and let him develop a little bit more? I'm very excited to see him getting regular playing time but don't want to rush him.
- Zach Jarom

I figured the vets signing would seal Vlasic's trip to Rockford, until we just got told that MCabe was out.

I think if I am the staff, he stays.

Damn!! 24 yr old Kyrou signs for 8 x 8.
- Mr Ricochet

Yeah, that must be the going rate now to keep these buds.

But, in his defense, I thin k they expected him to stay with the parent club as far back as 2018, but they were able to fill the roster with vets and let him percolate.
Same in 2019, after paying 19 games.

He waited until 2020 the "win" a spot, and I guess the 75 points last season was enough to in his "second season" to lock him up.
Robert Thomas, same.
Both these guys are solid six footers with jump, but are they the next gen Blues top liners?

Exactly.

Now how about the roster for The Tom Kurvers games.....strongest ever for the prospects tournament. Of course the design this year is not as strong an emphasis on rookies, but prospects owning a degree of professional experience.

Galvas is not AHL material. Is Rossi suiting up for them?

Other: talk about youngsters not being rushed has come up in discussion.... the blueline crew....
Mitchell, Vlasic and Galvas are on the cusp of NHL worthy. Rogula then the others are behind the aforementioned trio.

Then there is Roos/ an interesting prospect? How good is he/what is his ceiling. I bet even wiz isn 't sure. Phillips is a good athlete but he needs to step up much like Rogula did last season. Should need most of AHL season to do such.

Can a player change his style and become much more involved in physical confrontations/checking? Last season Beaudin and Kalynuk incorporated this aspect in their game.

Mitchell I feel like this open spot is his to lose at this point. I thought he was ready last year but just couldnt crack the line up.

I think Vlasic is seen as a special talent that could be the back bone of the D core of the future. Now he might be on the cusp to make the team but why not ease him in there especially when there really isn't anything to play for this year.

I just am really hoping Davidson as learned from Bowman that rushing young guys (especially defensemen) does more harm then good.

Vlasic could get the job out of camp and runs away with it and that would be great too. I just think this is another interesting thing to watch out for this season is how they use younger players.

I think it is a good possibility if Vlasic "wins" a spot on the roster, that he still does not start with the big club because #tankforbedard.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mitchell sticks and plays really well this year. Put him on a team with some semblance of a structure and he will easily be a top 4 IMO.

I see there are still some names out there that haven't signed with a team. Surprised Robertson hasn't signed with Dallas yet. Brandon Sutter, Antoine Roussel(are people tired of his style of play?) Kessel? Does this do anything for us?

Kessel is signed with Vegas I'm pretty sure

Robertson is an RFA and i'm pretty sure Dallas will just match any offer he gets. Kessel sadly signed in Vegas, i'm a big Kessel fan so I knew the universe wouldn't let me be happy and let him sign here.

I just can't see KD bringing in anyone else. I think he likes where this team is at when it comes to the veteran/prospect balance. I think unless there is another major injury don't expect any one added to this roster.

I agree, I have been very high on him and I think he could be a nice piece to have for this rebuild and when they are ready to compete again.

👍
Well-earned, for Hossa's backchecking alone.

I wouldn’t be surprised if both Mitchell and Vlasic make the club. Although Vlasic maybe starts in Rockford, he’ll be up as soon as Richardson gets a glimpse of C Jones in NHL action. While Dots gets on Murphy, I’ll be all over C Jones, the guy is just another Gus, with less offense, can’t believe that they gave him $1.2M.

Not really. Sets a very low bar for future retirements. Now they MUST put 2, 4, 7, 10, and possibly even 50 up.

Hossa is a great player, and if he’d spent the vast majority of his career with any one team he would probably deserve the honor…from whatever team that would have been.

He only played @41% of his career in Chicago, and statistically was already on the down side of his career when he got here. Scored 30 goals once in Chicago. Scored 35% of his career goals in Chicago.

He was exactly what the team needed when he got here, a stellar 2 way player that showed everyone how to be ultimate team guys. But he never put up big numbers, and he wasn’t here that long. Ultimate role player.

Not worthy of having his number retired. Total sham.

Hossa changed his game during his one year in Detroit, as he often points out. Chicago Hossa was a more complete player than Ottawa Hossa. He got in on the HHOF first ballot in large part because of what he did here.

#2 will go up in the rafters. I thought that was a given already. I expect he will get in the HHOF on the first ballot, also. The others mentioned are not first ballot guys, though I believe that #50 was criminally underrated.

If HHOF is automatic qualification to get your number retired, I understand Magnuson died tragically, but why retire #3 in his name, and not HHOF and played 12 of his 13 years in Chicago Pierre Pilote?

Pilote and Magnuson are both recognized by the Hawks for wearing #3, and the ceremony for both was on Nov 12, 2008. Was there any acrimony between Pilote and the Wirtzes before? One can argue that they never should have issued #3 again after Pilote left.

no acrimony that I know of. Pilote was older and only played one season with the Leafs. I think it was more Imlach was looking to get rid of Pappin at any cost.

I didn't realize they have separate banners for Magnuson and Pilote. Does that mean when Seabrook has #7 retired, that they will also have a #7 banner for Chelios?

I like what you have suggested in the past, just retire sweaters with names, no numbers. I always loved Hossa’s game with the Hawks, you could not take the puck away from that guy, he was a horse.

Any other Canadians on here annoyed about NHL live switching to Sportsnet Premium and charging another $70 to watch out of market teams?

It wouldn't surprise me if they retire both, unless they go with neither. Retiring 7 for only one of them seems less likely.

The first time I know of that a team retired the same number for two players was the Yankees retiring #8 for Bill Richardey and Yogi Berra. The Habs also did #12 for Richardie Moore and Yvan Cournoyer.
