Holl is trash and unfortunately as long as he's here, he'll be getting entirely too much ice-time. Because Keefe is apparently willing to die on that dumbass hill.

I also think Dubas is gonna do everything he can to keep Sandin, since he was his first ever pick as GM. He already fast-tracked him to the NHL, so I'd be shocked if he just cut-bait.

Where did Kubalik sign? I don't remember.

- GreatGigInTheSky

As Adam notes, he's in Detroit ($2.5 x 2, I believe it was).

I think Dubas wants to sign Sandin, but if he's insisting on a 3+ year deal and compensation to accommodate that, then he's going to miss this year or have to be traded. There simply isn't room. And it can't be a Nylander type of deal, because we don't have the up front cap space to accommodate a post-camp contract (similar to Nylander, the prorated cap hit for him was $10.2m in year 1, and $6.96 in subsequent years).

Sure win as many games as you can. But I still would rather play a less good team instead of the Lightning in the first round for example.

These arent the leafs, most teams do not want to meet the Jays in the playoffs.

If they get in

Would the jump in Sandin's CAP hit for this year be that much, if he goes the same route that Nylander did? Since he wouldn't be getting a overly big contract.

Like, if he signs for $2M or less, would it go much higher?

So, I think it's basically this: The Leafs have offered him 2x$1.4m. He wants 3 years @ $2m+ - probably $2.5m like Romanov, Jokiharju or Boqvist.

Let's say the deal is 3x2.5 - it's not that bad because the term is shorter and the salary isn't that high - but if he were to sign that deal on November 15th, the cap hit in year 1 is $2.95m, and $2.33 in the two subsequent years. On November 1st, it's closer @ $2.76m / $2.39m, and October 15th would be almost negligible at $2.57m / $2.46m.

Because they are already strapped, the Sandin 3 year deal is insisting that Kerfoot be traded because they can't fit him in otherwise. I think the real answer there is a 1 year deal @ $1.2m or so - then you move out Holl, sign ZAR to $900k, and would have around $800k in space to keep an extra player on the roster.

If I am Sandin, I want a 1 year deal to show how I have improved. Then pay me, or trade me..

Can only do so much as a GM with no money and a D man to sign.... How many 4th liners do the Leafs need?

That’s great but of the teams that the Jays might play in a wc series, Seattle is probably the best and the Twins/Guardians are probably the worst. Maybe they’re all scared of the Jays but I’d rather play the worst team instead of the best team.

I tend to agree. I like Motte. I also like ZAR, Aube-Kubel and Gaudette for these 4th line roles. I think we have some PK experience in that mix and some physicality. None of these guys, including Motte, would be an adequate 2LW, so to me that remains the biggest gap outside of signing Sandin.

What if, and hear me out, Motte didn't want to be a leaf?! I know it's mind blowing because you know, it's the leafs, but there's a chance some players don't want to come to Toronto.

It sure didn’t help against the Lightning. Their 4th line crushed the Leafs.

Let’s say you throw Kampf between Zar and the other guy with three names. It gives you a pretty good defensive line and lets you play around a bit more with the other three. Maybe move Willie to the 3rd and try to spread out the scoring. Even if you keep Gaudette on the 4th you’ve got a much stronger line then last year
