Sooooooo…
1st practice for my daughter’s team today.
I’ve been grumpy the whole week - pissed at the time commitment, pissed that it will eat up my weekends, etc.
And to top it off, she’s got a minor cold, so she skipped practice today.
Got there, and loved it.
Loved shooting the poop with the parents I know, meeting the new ones.
Loved being on skates for the first time since April.
Loved working with the kids, laying the groundwork for the season.
See you at the rink, biznitches. - Atomic Wedgie

Absolutely enjoy it, you’ll miss it later. I do. Most of my kid’s best friends are from hockey. I used to drive to Laurier to watch 11:00 at night intramural games. |

Would you pay more for a 29th overall who has yet to become a permanent NHLer even tho he’s heading into his 5th pro season?
I wouldn’t. - Dozzer
Guy taken 9 picks after Sandin, who is a couple months old than he is, and has had less success at the NHL level so far (19 points in 133 games for Romanov and 28 points in 88 games for Sandin), literally just got traded for the 13th overall pick in the past draft.
I'm not saying he should garner the same return because I don't believe the guy that actually got that return should have, but his worth is well above a 4th.
But I'm also of the belief that Dubas won't trade Sandin. |

Asking for trouble: NASA is seeking for input from the internet to name the satellite that will probe Uranus. They’ve already had the Mercury program so that’s gone.

This can only end very, very well.

Ok please hear what I’m saying…
Do I think Sandin is a guy who could be potentially a solid top 4? Yes.
Do I think that without a defensive upgrade to the right side that this will happen with the leafs? No.
I’m not against Sandin at all but I simply don’t see where the leafs truly have a use for him… which I don’t like because I understand they’d want to keep him but won’t move him because let’s be honest here… what’s a late first rounder, entering pro season 5, has yet to truly become an NHL regular, and essentially just saw a 38 year old signed ahead of him going to be worth?
I like the kid but I’m thinking the leafs will essentially lower his value unfortunately if they keep this approach up. |

Dozzer, I like you man, but always remember Scott Gomez was traded for McDonagh. My point is, crazier trades with lopsided values have been done before. Just need a GM desperate enough. Or another recent one would be Erat for Forsberg.
Either way, I pose a question, if you had to trade one of these guys, by themselves for whatever player you want, which one do you trade, Sandin or Robertson? |

The “yet to be one an NHL regular” hasn’t become an NHL regular much more because of the circumstances of the Leafs rosters than because of the views of management towards him. Signing a 38 year who won the Norris not that long ago and is still a very defenceman does not mean they don’t value Sandin.
They’re not moving him because they see him as an important part of their future.

Robertson is you could find a taker ... in a heartbeat. D is more valuable than a F who's yet to grab a spot, no matter what you think of Sandin current situation.

Agreed. Look at the guys on the left side - with their age and style of play, there will be injuries and games missed. Sandin will get in lots of games.

It should always depend on the return. Neither will get a significant return and both are young and talented ....so for me it's neither. Leafs will need them (and their low AAV's) going forward.
Guys hold out and sign late every single year. If he was truly pushing for a trade I think we would have heard that from his agent by now. At this point I assume they're all just using leverage (training camp) to barter for nickels and dimes and perhaps to fight about whether it should be a 1 yr (Sandin's preference) or 2 yr deal (Leafs preference). Sandin just wants to get to Arb asap to gain leverage sooner. Leafs, like they did with Lilly, would like to put that off a year. |

I don't disagree with your assessment on his fit with the team right now, I disagree with his value on the trade market. Sandin being worth a 4th rounder is silly.
There are always teams who will pay a premium for potential. There are plenty of young NHLers who don't regularly crack lineups by the time they're his age, Liljegren being the latest.
The idea he lost a job to Mark Giordano isn't a knock against him, every single team in the league that considers itself a contender would move a young defenceman back to fit in Giordano under a million bucks. |

Bigger question for me is what do they do if/when they sign Sandin?
They're at the Cap now with 12F/6D/2G .....would need to have a trade ready to go I think. I still assume Holl for futures could happen really quick if needed.

I do too, but that leaves a definite hole on the right side unless you force Sandin there. I don't think that ages well personally. |

Ya, it's just that subject to a trade, they've got two options if/when they sign Sandin ....move Holl out or move Kerfoot out.
I just kind of think Holl is more likely. You lose that 2M and you can essentially sign Sandin and carry a 7th D like Benn (who can play the R side).
The other argument for moving Holl is that if you're signing Sandin and keeping him then you have to let him play. So someone has to shift from L to R in that scenario regardless. |

They have so many more options upfront if they move Kerfoot. If they make a move on defence, I just don’t see any good way to fit a square peg into the round R-side Holl. |
