I think the reason for that, Doz, is that he's been slotted as a top 4 guy.

We all know he's not a top four guy. You're blaming the fans for calling it as they see it.

There would be a fraction of the fan reaction if he was a bottom pair guy the whole time.

So, top 4 won’t come unless he overcomes Rielly without someone better entering the system.

Unfortunately the leafs management don’t even see him as a full time top 6 guy. Should we be concerned? The longer he’s not a full timer the less he’ll be worth. Yes he’s a first rounder but a very late one. 3-4 different GMs would have made him a second rounder. Leafs media and fans overvalues the kid. Talented? Yes. Worthy of a full time spot on a cup contender? I guess no.

I just think it has to be Kerfoot to give them enough flexibility. They’re $1.5M over now with 22 signed. I don’t know what ZAR will cost but Holland wanted him so we’d have to pay something and then there’s Sandin and and there’s call up $. I get going with a smaller roster and maybe somebody with waiver flex makes the team but I have to think they want to make hockey decisions, not cap decisions.

Maybe but they've lived with cap decisions every year so far and it just looks like they're prepared to do it again.

Start with 12F 7D and 2G and they'd be tight. You'd have a spare (likely on D) to go with 7D or to sub in for an injured D. Longer injuries = LTIR, which changes everything and could actually create more space to expand the roster.

The toughest spot is short term injuries but a $750k call up, if needed, equates to $25k in weekly cap space needed. I think Pridham's got this either way.

I think this is probably what is tying the signing up! Dubas "may" have asked Sandin. And his agent to be patient, Until things work out "in the wash" Depending on the trade(their almost has to be a trade) Determines what amount of $ is available to play with. I can't believe the Leafs are willing to part with a potential top 4 "D" man for the next 5-6 years for peanuts on the $ ? What if Mathews stays? The GM has to consider all angles!
