Subban would not be embarrassed by accepting a PTO. |

5. P.K. Subban is going to help a quality team
If Subban signs with a contender for a low salary, the deal has the potential to be one of the better offseason signings. Impact + low salary is always a winning equation in a salary cap world. Maybe he's not a top pairing guy anymore, but he can certainly play the game. Eighteen minutes out of Subban is still a desirable situation.
As many quickly pointed out, Subban can no longer play the game. No contender has any role for him. He's looking at a league minimum deal with someone like Arizona or a PTO with the likely embarassment of being sent to the AHL..

Subban went from being an elite dman to completely falling off a cliff in very short order at a very young age. One of the worst age declines in recent memory. |

My memory of Yandle is last year him being, objectively by both advanced stats and eye-test, one of the 5 worst players in hockey, and pretty much sucking what limited enjoyment there was to have watching the Flyers. Ahhhh yes, we'll always have those memories. |

Yandle didn't retire. He refused to. Instead, they took him out behind the barn and put the old dog down. Humane thing to do, actually. |

Yea, that didn't age well.(Allen propoganda piece to make us think Subban was an asset.) His opinion was 4 years to old if we are kind. |

I'm glad these guys called it quits, I think everyone has gotten used to the idea of veteran players sticking around long past their prime.
Everyone has their pride and maybe even the love for the game keeps them going but if you love the game, do everyone a favor and retire. Make some room for the young guys to grow and get the ice time. Give the teams the flexibility to add new contracts and fit under the cap.
...and most of all, let the fans remember how well you played during the good days and not how pathetic it was when you stuck around too long.

My favorite memory is when all the Frenchies got mad that his initials weren't pronounced their way and said Pay-Ka Subban |

I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for PK to accept reality and pull the cord. Elite athletes spend their entire lives defying the odds and climbing to heights most of us will never achieve. To be able to know when the ride is over and to bow out gracefully has to be a tough ass decision to make, especially at such a young age. Props to PK for going out when he did and not trying to prolong his glory days well past his shelf life like many other NHL'ers do. |

My guess is that in the upcoming years:
- Yandle will teach/coach a peewee league team, but then soon have trouble keeping up with the kids.
- Chara will become a private security consultant, and have an opportunity to intimidate and beat up on bad guys off the ice.
- Subban will become a regular commentator on ESPN, where he can do what he has always done best - running off his mouth. The deal is probably already in the works. |
