From Sportsnet… One training camp related question for every NHL team.
Vancouver Canucks: How do the three Russians start off?
Vasily Podkolzin returns for Year 2 with the Canucks, and the 2019 10th overall pick will look to build on his 26-point rookie season. He showed the variety of tools he has last season, and got better as the year went along — but is he a top-six player right now? Newly arrived Ilya Mikheyev is an established NHLer with a two-way presence and elite speed, the latter of which was sorely needed in this lineup. But, like Podkolzin, does he have the offensive pop to hang in the top-six, or will he be a third-line staple? And then where does Andrei Kuzmenko, the KHL's second-highest scorer last season, fit in? Will he make the team out of camp?
What are people’s expectation for the Russians? |

Podkolzin is a good kid and a hard worker, but, he’s the second coming of Leo Komarov. He’s just not talented enough at the NHL level to be anything more than a serviceable tweener. And there’s nothing wrong with that! He’ll have a good NHL career in that role. |

This is the first time I've seen anyone question Kuzmenko making the team. I thought it was just assumed he would be gifted a top 6 spot and they would figure out as the season went on whether or not he fits. |

Kuzmenko makes the team yes. Lockwood or any other Abby bound player are not at his level to beat him out of a roster spot. He’s a play driver the real deal according to scouts and pundits.
The question should be how big an impact can the Russians make. Will it be enough to help the team make the playoffs this season?
With Canucks going with Bo, JTM & EP40 down the middle there will be good situations to shine for the wingers. More likely 3 lines that will get equal opportunities. That means whatever line Kuzmenko and the other two Russians play on they will be getting top offensive situations. |

Do you mean digested? I mean, I agree, Lefty’s takes are often disgusting, but…
Also, if Podkolzin becomes a consistent 20/20 guy that would be a pretty good result. |

Yes, I did mean digested. This is why I don't come on here on my phone very often. Or proof read.
I would expect at least 20/20 for Podz this year. In the future a little higher than that. |
