He'd be a good commentator. I hope he stays with NJ in some capacity.

Age 28 season he was an elite dman. By 31 he was mediocre. Now completely done at 33. One of the worst cases of age decline in a dman in recent years.

can't believe the most valuable bottom pair dman in the league didn't get big bucks to play anywhere.

Subban wasn't a great player for us but really appreciated all that he did for the team and the community while he was here. Really bought all into being a Devil and always felt like he wanted to be part of the team.

All this hate for Subban. I loved him on the team. The swagger and fun he brought to the team was worth it. He did some good on the ice, but definitely wasn't the Norris Trophy D man everyone was hoping for.

Not having to focus on the playing, I wonder how big of an impact he can have in Newark. He's young, got style, very outgoing. I'd love for him to hang around and help grow the area around the Rock.

I agree. His cap hit was massive and his impact was minimal as a Dev. That doesn't take away from what he once was, nor his over 10M in Charity work. The guy is a humanitarian and hopefully can provide some unfiltered takes and tell some good stories. Don't try and be like the average panelist, bring your own experience PK. You have the experience and the NHL needs their own Shaque/Barkley, or Mannings/Moss who are helping grow the audience. NHL desperately needs personality during intermissions.

What happened with Shakhir Muk? The Russian D we drafted in 1st round couple years ago?

Any reason why he wasn't at prospects? I know he signed his ELC and played for Utica at end of the year

a lot of players having trouble getting out of Russia without getting killed probably has something to do with it.

He was “loaned”… so, he’s likely somewhere in Ukraine fighting a meaningless war.

Is Brendan Smith a Colin White type D man?

Player interviews were encouraging. Wish we could’ve landed either JG or tkachuk. Our young guys seem ready to take the next step and having a top scorer, let alone a top scorer that’s also a top physical presence, could be a foundational piece that helps carry the team to multiple deep playoff runs.
Bratt and Holtz better be worth it. Tkachuk can match their points but bring the physicality that still matters in the league.. and he’s only turning 25 this year.

Pierre LeBrun had an Athletic article talking about how the Devils were actively going for Tkachuk, the issue was that he had a very narrow list of teams he was willing to do the sign and trade for and we weren't one of them.

And Columbus just wowed JG with.. being in Columbus and playing with Laine and the dynamic centers they have -_- idk what he saw over there.

Well from the sounds of it he really wanted to play for the Flyers but they are idiots and spent a bunch of money on garbage players instead of just JG. Apparently we were in the mix but Columbus upped the offer randomly and he bit.

Offensively, that is now the kind of player he is. Don't expect more than 10 points, but he was a bit of a swiss army knife as a ranger. Played RD, and LW. He also doesn't mind sticking up for his teammates and dropping the mitts. He isn't a game breaker and may get the odd healthy scratch, but can fill in a few different depth roles if needed.

Agreed. He will never sniff 100 points again with those linemates. To leave an all 40G top line, and join a team who's top 2 Centres are 19 years old, there will be growing pains.

This signing is proof even some of the elites don't care about winning the cup. Being a NHL player is a job. Make as much as you can in the short career that you have and live the rest of your young life in riches.

Ohio is a nice place to start a family and its inexpensive. This was clearly a family decision, not whats best for his career.

A man looking after his family, can't argue with that.

Oh absolutely. I will never fault someone for going after money or location, unless there was some crazy heartfelt handshake agreement to stay. But even still.. it’s your life and you never know how long you’ll be able to make a great living playing hockey.
