Here's one thing I slapped together:

Goals saved above average (GSAA) is really a metric of shots against - it measures how well your save percentage on the team reflected against the league average save percentage. It's a decent optical measure to give you an idea of goaltender performance against league average, but it doesn't take into consideration a team's performance directly nor does it take into consideration the difficulty of the shots faced.

Goals saved above expected (GSAx) looks at the league average LD save %, MD save % and HD save %, and then applies that average to the goalie's experience (i.e., a goalie who faces more HD shots or fewer HD shots will have their GSAx influenced by their performance rather than that of the team).

In October,
Campbell had a GSAA of -0.54, but a GSAx of 1.52;
Murray had a GSAA of .54 and a GSAx of 1.37.

In November,
Campbell had a GSAA of 7.5 and a GSAx of 12.82;
Murray had a GSAA of -7.5 and a GSAx of -5.34

In December,
Campbell had a GSAA 0 and a GSAx of -1.19;
Murray was injured.

In January,
Campbell had a GSAA of -5.08 and a GSAx of -7.65;
Murray had a GSAA of 5.08 and a GSAx of 7.26

In February,
Campbell had a GSAA of -5.17 and a GSAx of -7.15;
Murray had a GSAA of 5.17 and a GSAx of 7.18

In March (both only played 2 games),
Campbell had a GSAA of 2.1, but a GSAx of -4.78;
Murray had a GSAA of -2.1 and a GSAx of -6.68

In April,
Campbell had a GSAA of 0, and a GSAx of -1.52;
Murray was, again, injured.

If you take November out, Jack Campbell was an unmitigated disaster last year. the gamble that Dubas is taking here is really that the goalie that played for Ottawa in January and February can both stay healthy and emulate that level of play. I'm no odds maker, but the odds of it happening are probably better than betting on '00' in roulette, but worse than just betting on black or red.

I'm obviously insanely biased because I'm a Leafs fan, but with so many fans of other teams praying on the Leafs downfall with Matthews leaving, how (frank)ing incredible would it be if the exact opposite happens?!
